am i the only one who feels that even if spurrier coached for an nfl organization like the steelers or ravens he would be an avg coach simply because he wouldnt put in the time the other nfl coaches do. I know talent is necessary but even belichick the most hardworking (arguably) coach in the nfl hasnt won a super bowl in 9 years with brady so i doubt a spurrier type could ever be successful in nfl. Awesome college coach but not meant for nfl.

If only there were some way to know what would happen if he got an NFL job...

Spurrier is one who wants to be so dominantly in his QBs head the QB becomes Steve Spurrier. He just wouldn't be able to do that in the NFL and his offense doesn't work if he can't get that going.

His offense works really well when opponent is outmatched. He gets impatient with extended drives and is not an in game adjustment coach. And he likes to golf. The offense is too gimmicky for NFL and in my opinion that was bigger issue than work ethic.

Steve is an excellent college coach and CFB needs him.

Maybe one day Spurrier might finally coach a Heisman winner or win a national title to.

I think he would do well in the NFL. I thought he was a sure bet for the Redskins job, but they took Shannehan.

Not at this point in his career, but I think Spurrier could have been a successful pro coach if he would have been given a second chance earlier.

ETA: Pete Carroll failed twice in the NFL and now has a good thing going in Seattle.

So were the Chan Gailey, Romeo Crennel, Norval Turner, Dave Wanstedt, and Herm Edwards experiments.

Ok. That really wasn't the point though. Maybe it was a bad example, but I was just trying to point out a college coach that got a second chance in the pros after not lasting long during his first opportunity.
