Montravius Adams vs Nick Fairley

I'm really high on Adams style of play. I'm really looking foward to following this kid the next 3 years. Does anyone here think he could be better than Nick Fairley? They both dominated in HS but who will be the better tiger of the two?

It's gonna be hard to be better than Fairley

Fairley was Au's best d linemen in years, possibly their best. Those are ridiculous expectations to put on an incoming freshman. I think he'll be a beast, but to predict he'll be a top 10 NFL pick in a few years is premature. But if he doesn't end up an early round pick, I'd be surprised. The potential is there.

Not to contradict part of your thesis, but wasn't Fairley a 3 star recruit out of hs?

Depends on how many late hits he gets on the QB.

Ginger McElroy still has nightmares of Fairley.

I am still pissed that we chased Vanderdoes instead of just taking Adams. I feel that this will haunt us in some form down the road. I feel the same way about not taking Bell and chasing Conner

We were never gonna get Adams. You could say that about turning down Bell to chase Conner, but supposedly it was Eddie Jackson that took Hus school.

Best in years or best ever? Definitely not best ever, maybe best in years.

We all have sources close to recruiting and mine said that Adams was ready to commit, but our coaches weren't as high on him as they were on Vanderdoes and decided to go after the latter. They felt that Adams is too raw and played against a lot of inferior competition in high school.

Dude seriously, I just kind of assume everyone knows someone close to their particular teams that gives them info. My source to Bama is pretty good.

I had high hopes for Jeff Whitaker and Gabe Wright.. They haven't produced at all.. If Adams can cause half the disruption Fairley did, I'll be happy.

Not knocking Adams' ability, but I've heard he is extremely lazy. Gonna need constant coaching and motivation to maximize his potential, which is enormous.

I'm thinking Toby Johnson gets closer to Nick Fairley than Monty Adams. And yes... that takes into account that Johnson will be in a 3-4 half of the time.

At this point, though... players are aspiring to be the wrecking ball in college that Fairley was.

As was Fairley until the light went on his second year. He was pretty mediocre his first year and pretty consistently took plays off.

A lot of these great high school players could be considered lazy, because they're just naturally bigger and better than everyone else and don't really have to try very hard. As long as Adams realizes he's going to have to put in hard work and he's coachable, the sky is the limit.
