Why does this generation lack creativity?

Over the last 10 to 15 years I've noticed a lack of creativity in everything from recycled movies, music, clothing...etc.

Laziness. Easier to recreate the Great Gatsby then create your own classic on a level with the Great Gatsby
It is also sure money. It is a business not for artistic progress. A movie company knows that The Great Gatsby, even if it blows this May, will still make 600+ million$ worldwide likely a shite ton more since it should be better.

They are the entitlement generation ... they believe everything is owed them, therefore they have no motivation to seek anything for themselves. And that applies to some, not all, by any means.
They have been raised by video games, liberal progressive TV and movies, and by parents too busy trying to make ends meet, or keep up with the Jones, to actually take special interest in seeing their children develop viable healthy imaginations and creative internal drives.
This generation has little to no respect for anything. They have very few manners. They have even fewer social skills.
Here's the irony.
Yesterday it was revealed that, next to mortgage debt, educational debt is the second largest debt in the country. And it was also revealed that kids are dropping out of school at a higher rate than ever before in the history of this country.
Why?
Because they've learned that the government will pay them enough to sustain them through life ... no need to actually be creative, and work for it any longer.
They've learned that their parents will allow them to move back home and live in their old bedrooms.
They've learned they can have babies and not have to marry, or worry about how to pay for them ... because Uncle Sugar and their parents will take care of all of that.
It's simply easier to lay back, copy things, and enjoy life compared to say ... I dunno, being creative and carving their own niche in the history of the world.
Many of them believe they are actually doing something by being expert trolls on the Internet, or by being disrespectful to their elders or ... well, you asked.

I think the creativity is still there, it just doesn't get the appreciation or exposure it deserves.

Creativity will arise out of the complacent boomer generation, and already has.

Exactly. Video games are so straight forward, it takes no problem solving what so ever to be successful at the games. Also, every bit of entertainment I see shouts the virtue of living on welfare from the mountain tops. It's a miracle all of the young folks can even bathe themselves without government help.

This too. I grew up in the south, and no one around here seems to give a shite about manners. Plus why go out and party and talk to people when I can have just as much fun bullshitting on tigerdroppings. Meeting a woman? Who cares, I can look at titties on the internet. Same thing right?

That couldn't be because of the inflation of the price of college and the current aversion to debt, especially among the young. Plus, if I drop out I don't have to pay off the loans right? I'll just get them discharged in bankruptcy as I get on the government teet.

Yeah, since the cost of housing hasn't gone up in recent years and it is so easy to get a loan with limited credit history and "underemployment"; all of us just realized it's easier to live with our folks. Who wants independence and freedom?

That's right, well just want to frick and watch TV all day. It's amazing really, how even in these tough economic times people aren't putting off having kids until later in life. You know, except that they are.

The general point of your post reminded me of the song at the start of All In The Family. Nostalgia for a time that really didn't exist. The youth of today just have different challenges, but challenges nonetheless.
On the point of creativity, have people not been paying attention to the explosion of new technology over the past twenty years? "Creativity" is everywhere! People just aren't looking in the right places when they bemoan the creativity of current generations.

We are also the most altruistic generation ever with decidedly more money and time spent on helping others. In addition, our generation is the most adept at multitasking and handling all the billion things that go on in a day.
Not saying you're wrong in the complaints, but there are some positives as well.
