The SEC has shown it is not interested in taking schools from states already in their footprint so sorry FSU, Clemson, "The U" Louisville, and Georgia Tech Not that tech would ever be picked anyway.

That Leaves the following schools to consider that are still considered to be somewhat in the "southeast":
Oklahoma, Virgina Tech, North Carolina, Virgina, NC State, Oklahoma State, and Duke.

My pick:
North Carolina: Because that is a big state in the SEC Region that we don't have plus it will grow are basketball brand so big 10 fans wont be able to play the basketball card.

Oklahoma: We are already in the southern plains with mizzou, A&M and Arkansas why not throw in Oklahoma.

I think you need a geography lesson. When in the hell did Missouri get into the "southern plains".

If North Carolina comes then Duke will be coming with them. Only way North Carolina comes and the SEC will happily oblige.

A lot of the Big Ten people think they will go with them because of the academic prestige but people from North Carolina say the interest in the SEC is very real.

OU is not happening. They are a package deal with OSU which is a non starter. The SEC also wants to go East and not West into bigger markets.

NC is the key, where they go and how they go affects multiple schools and multiple conferences. They are the most significant mover since A&M in terms of affecting the landscape the most.

Two years ago no one thought A&M would leave without Texas.

Funny, that's why you see me editing a lot of my posts. I type fast, half the time I'm tired. After I post I read again and notice my words and then have to edit

For some reason I'd love to see another team from Texas. I like the state of Texas being in the SEC.

If the SEC expanded I would want Duke and UNC. They bring other good things to the sport besides football and adding more football powerhouses to the conference would not be good. No sense in beating each other up when we are already dominant.

I'm not sold that FSU is out of the mix...they would be the ONLY big name addition besides a possible Texas or Oklahoma...

North Carolina isn't coming...academically, they fit better with the B1G

The only real candidates are Virginia Tech, NC State, and FSU

Virginia Tech would fit well...Personally, I'd rather see FSU than NC State

Actually this is not true at all. Some may have thought so but only the uninformed. OU OTOH got rejected by the Pac and SEC based on their wanting to bring along OSU.

The fundamental difference is if OU left for the SEC it would destabilize the Big 12 and screw over OSU. Politically OU could not leave OSU to the abyss as they would not be able to join a major conference due to their tiny TV market and crap academics. A&M could leave because Texas was still in the Big 12 to "take care of the kids" in Tech (primarily), Baylol, and Purple Baylol. The Texas connection was never the key, it is about the lesser schools that need a "Daddy" to keep them in a major conference. The dumbest thing Dodds has ever said was that the Big 12 would always be viable as long as Texas was still there because the other 3 Texas schools left would likely be left out if they tried to get in one of the Big 3 conferences (none are AAU, none have significant resources or alumni base, none can deliver any of the major Texas markets alone).

A&M is one of the few schools that literally could have gone SEC, Pac 12, or Big 1G because they are AAU, have huge TV markets, money, and alumni base, are located in the middle of the country, and were able to go "solo". North Carolina is similar though they obviously aren't going to go Pac 12 (even though ironically they probably fit with the Pac 12 culturally better than the Big 1G or SEC but the geography would be ridiculous).
