is gimpy and will be in the line up regardless, but what level of drop off does Bama have if he is unable to play the entire game?

70 looks good the times he has played and looks to be the same size. Weight wise maybe not height wise

Broker, from the articles I have read recently all the players are saying this kid is ready to play and he does a very good job. The center position will be fine.

I believe Ryan Kelly is good and will be very good eventually. What you lose if Barrett can't go is the cohesiveness of the unit. I think it would be significant.

is this my old friend from al.com....I agree with the back up center. Everything I have read says he is good to go and I would not be surprised if he gets some scheduled reps just to give Jones some breathers. Jones may be a little rusty from a stamina standpoint since he has been rehabbing a lot

For some reason it took me quite some time to get approved here. I hope my reputation has not preceded me here. I will try and play nice.

An obvious drop off, but we'd still pound ND.

My opinion is BJ will play the whole game. He's such a leader that unless something breaks, he will play through the pain.

If Kelly is so good, then why in the Auburn game did Bama call a timeout when Jones lost his shoe? Why didn't they just let Kelly comes in for a play? I think Bama was already up 21-0 at the time.

Experience. I would rather him start in a smaller game.

He may not have been ready, could've just experienced a cramp or something right before that happened for all we know. He was on the SEC All-Freshman team, he's legit. 6'5" 295 right now, needs to add weight, but he's got a lot of potential.

I hope he is a great player, but him being on the All-Freshman team was a joke. Was there not another freshman center in the SEC this year?

I don't know, but he certainly looked impressive when he played.

No he is the only freshman to play significant minutes this year.

- I think the drop would be considerable.

- Players propping up backups on the team is common, in fact when was the last time you heard a CFB do otherwise.

- If Kelly was close, I assume he would have played much more this year, allowing Jones to play some guard.

The whole reason Barrett moved to Center was to get the five best guys out there, and they have that. Adding Kelly and taking out Steen wouldn't have been a good idea.

Kelly played a lot for a Freshman. Why would you bench Steen to play Kelly? Everyone knows he is not as good as BJ, but it does not mean he is not good.

I had a friend telling me about why the players are raving so much about Kelly and was told a much closer comparison was Warmack said he's extremely physical and nasty gets under pad levels and very light pulls well not as fluid as BJ who sort of glides, the drop off of BJ from a playcalling standpoint though the kid is ready talent and physicality wise though without a doubt what I'm hearing

I said he would have played more, not saying he should be a starter. Remember Cyrus last year and the way he was being developed, similar philosophy. BJones is much better at guard than Steen, assuming Kelly is "good", there would not have been much of an overall drop in OL with the switch. Hence the reason I question if Kelly really is as close to ready as his teammates imply.

Kelly played because there were blowouts and he was second on chart, he did not play one play while game was in question. Not that I can remember anyways.

Moving BJ to G a few series a game while developing Kelly would be very helpful for next year. It is a strategy that Saban used just last year with a guy that was close(cyrus), by moving Jones to guard in place of Steen. The exact same players and move would be involved that Saban has already used.
