During this whole conference realignment talk, Ive been looking at the other conferences and assessing their ability to compete against the SEC. its pretty laughable in most cases. But I cant put my finger on exactly what they need to do to keep up. Obviously the SEC has a built in advantage due to location and having so many great athletes within our borders. But Texas and California have great athletes too and Miami and FSU are in the same hotbed as the SEC teams.

So my question to you ranters is this: What do the other conferences have to do to get on the level of SEC football?

is it,
A: get better coaches
B: spend more money of their football programs
C: oversign
D: change their style of play
E: beg for mercy
F: something else

Simply joining the SEC seems to have a 50-50 shot of succeeding.

give rednecks something else to do. frankly there's not much going on in the state of Alabama, so all they have is college football.

you may have a point there but i would word it differently. football is king in the south so many athletes that might excell in soccer, baseball, basketball, and other sports continue to select football astheir sport of choice to participate in. esp african american youth. many parents, esp caucasian ones discourage or even forbid their children to play football. therefore the SEC's pool of quality players is elevated and when one adds the focus on hiring the best coaches and building the best facilities the reasons for the advantage become apparent.

or you could just say down south we rednecks like football better so we focus on it and are better because of that.

Simply put the fans have to demand more. The bigger the fan demand for a quality product in a particular area drives the aggresiveness of the media in that area. The agressiveness of the media puts pressure on the people in charge of the product to do something to make a quality product.

Do you think Auburn fans were going to sit back and allow Chizik to return after going 3-9 just because he won a recent championship? Nope. Not going to happen.

Do you think LSU, Florida, South Carolina, and Georiga fans are satisfied with just having a good season. Keep in mind these are teams that were a play or two away from playing for a SEC or BCS championship. They'll take it, but next year you better win.

Texas A&M had a very good season this year, but I can ganruntee you they want more.

Ole Miss, Vandy, and Miss State have all improved under their current head coaches, but they want more.

Big 10: Recruit more black players and fewer slow, white people.
Big XII: Play defense.
ACC: Care about football as much as they do about basketball.

Quite simply, they can't. The SEC is a mile ahead and the gap is bigger every year. The demographics of the country are one reason. The fact CFB is king in the South is another. The budgets and facilities is another. Great conference leadership and vision is another.

In the end though the best HS football athletes are in the South and they have no reason to leave to go to school elsewhere. That isn't changing for the forseeable future.
