Would Georgia Southern win be bigger than App State over Michigan?

That was big back in 2007. Really big. Interestingly enough, Michigan was ranked #5 in the country and lost to Appalachian State in Ann Arbor, no less. If Georgia Southern went into Athens and beat UGA this weekend, would that be about the same? Or bigger?

Same.

Edit: I changed my mind. Worse. ASU beat michigan early in the year, if I recall, before all the end of year championship game hype. UGA would lose much more.

It'd be a bigger upset. UGA has far more riding on the game at this point for UGA.

Michigan had proved nothing considering it was the first game of the season. UGA has proven that they deserve to be a top 5 ranked team. The loss to GA Southern would be monumental compared to the Appy St game.

Way bigger for multiple reasons

1. The App state game was at the very beginning of the season and we all know how pre-season polls work. If we were to lose a game like that in November while ranked #5 we would be the biggest fraud since the 2004 OU team that lost 55-17 in the championship game.

2. That Appalachian State team was at the very end of a 3peat for the Subdivision championship (05-07)

3. That Appalachian State team had 7 guys get drafted. 3 went before the 3rd round; Armani Edwards, Brian Quick, and Dexter Jackson

Bottomline: A loss to Southern would be much worse and also grounds for a mass suicide

Michigan lost four games that year (App, Oregon, @Wisc, OSU). This would definitely be worse.
