The former Texas A&M DC and current head coach of Fresno State. After going 4-9 last season he currently has Fresno State 7-3 and 5-1 in his conference. Every Aggie knew he was going to be a great head coach when he got to A&M. He lead A&M to a bowl victory (the first one in a decade) after Sherman was fired, and in the midst of a lot of turmoil in the football program, including the untimely death of a senior player, he really kept the team together for that game.

I don't mind you guys picking him up, because we won't play Kentucky that much, and I think he would be really good for your program.

He was the only coach on Sherman's staff I respected.

I got loaded with DeRoot a few times at some donor functions. He's a natural sell to alums and to recruits.

He's a hell of a coach. He deserves to be in the SEC IMO.

I fully support him being in the east.

The question is, would he actually go to Kentucky? I know Fresno can't be where he wants to finally end up but maybe he's holding out for better?

I saw his name mentioned somewhere, and I think he has potential. A defensive minded coach, who seems to know what he's doing. Not sure if he's ready for the SEC, but I do like what I have read about him.

I hope we stay away from an offensive coach, we need defense to win in the SEC.

There was a large contingent of fans that wanted to keep him on staff.

He is the master mind behind Von Miller's insane 2010 stats and is probably the reason Miller went #2 overall.

Within the Mike Sherman firing debacle, losing DeRuyter was something a lot of the 12th Man Foundation didn't want any part of. They knew he would be a casualty, and it caused some added hesitation. He was not a great recruiter, but he was probably the best Xs and Os guy you could have asked for.

Lowest Nebraska scored in 2010 - Texas A&M.
Lowest OU scored in 2010 - Texas A&M.
Lowest Arkansas scored in 2010 - Alabama, but A&M held them to their second lowest.

Brilliant defensive mind--almost to a fault. Dick LeBeau disciple. 3-4 all the way. Not sure if UK can recruit to that.

There was some consternation over the complexity of his scheme (dude is obsessed with disguising). Some think our defensive regression in 2011 was in part due to that, but I doubt it. He took an 09 D that ranked in the 100s to around 50ish in 2010. We also led the country in sacks last year and finished in top 20 run D. Of course no one ran on us because we couldn't defend the pass worth a shite.

I don't know if he's much of a recruiter, but he'll bring Nick Toth as his DC who is pretty good.
