I think he has proven himself and you know it would be a great recruiting tool.

He is on the list, but doubtful he leaves... better chance he goes to Arkansas.

We better be told no by about 3-4 other guys first, but I'd take him as a fallback option.

Just not all that impressed with him squeaking by other Big East teams when his talent is far more superior given the way he's been able to recruit there. Yeah, I understand the name of the game is to simply win, but if we're judging him based on the opportunity to get a bigger job, I'd like to see him blowing more of these teams out. Petrino housed folks when he was there, and the conference was better then.

All that said, I think he's a solid coach that I would take in a heartbeat over Chizik, although that's not saying much.

Has Larry Fedora at UNC been brought up? I heard his name mentioned earlier today.

Guys usually don't leave jobs after one year, unless they're douchebags like todd graham.

I'm not sure I'd want a guy who's leaving his current job for greener pastures after 6 months on the job.

i mean this in a sincere way and hope it comes off that way...so are we to the point were confidence is so low that fall back types are the coaches we are going to discuss?

I wouldn't mind Fedora at all, he'd be a much better choice than Strong anyway IMO, particularly combined with a good DC.

1) Bobby Petrino
2) Jimbo Fisher
3) Charlie Strong
4) Kyle Shanahan

Wait for it...

5) Tony Dungy

I don't have Tony Dungy down my list because I don't want him over the others, but I do have him down my list because I was given info that I'm going to take with a grain of salt.

How?

Strong has a better record right now at Louisville than Fedora had at USM in his first 3 years (7-6, 7-6, 8-5). Fedora's had one good year (2011). And, he lost to Strong this year already. Not to mention losing to Duke & Wake Forest.

Fedora walked into a dumpster fire at UNC, and despite that he has improved them in pretty much every facet in the space of one offseason. UNC has gone from 76th to 26th in rushing offense, 36th to 32nd in passing offense, 53rd to 16th in total offense, and 56th to 17th in scoring offense. Their total defense is about the same, but they've gone from 27th in rushing defense to 19th, and from 56th in scoring defense to 29th. Southern Miss went from 17th in total offense and 14st in scoring offense in 2011 with Fedora to 104th in total offense and 107th in scoring offense without him.

That's what I call coaching them up myself, and I'd prefer an offensive minded coach myself. Combine him with a good DC and I think he could be very solid.

Louisville has looked pretty damn soft on defense the 2-3 times I've watched them, and Strong's defense also ranks worse than UNC's this year in both rushing defense (36th), and scoring defense (41st). Strong offenses have been nothing to write home about either. I don't see Strong as anything more than a slight upgrade over Chizik possibly.

Fedora could at least bring us back strong on offense. He wouldn't be my first choice, but I think he could do a good job here.
