Looks like NCAA is tired of SEC dominance.

“@BryanDFischer: The NCAA working group WILL recommend cutting FBS football scholarships from 85 to 80, beginning in 2014.”

ETA: Fixed title!

I might agree with you if they were only cutting the SEC football scholarships.

I think they should go to 70, since that is your travel roster.

All that is going to do is take away the opportunity for a free education from a bunch of 18 year olds.

I love the idea. I really think they should cut it down to 60. I like an even playing field for schools like Mississippi State and Ole Miss who get screwed every year.

It's bullshite that some schools can have 3 deep in talent.

If it hurts everyone equally (it doesn't), why do it?

That was my thought on it DGD. It hurts every conference. I might even agree with the OP if they said they were cutting them cause all the other conferences were tired of the curb stompings they got from the SEC, but alas, that's not quoted in the tweet.

What happened to this sport being a way to give kids an education?

Isn't that what the NCAA stood for? Now 5 less kids from every institution get a chance to better themselves.

God I wish the NCAA would go away. More worthless than our government.

Only the kids who are currently getting Division III scholarships. I call it the trick-down effect.

It doesn't hurt everyone equally--it hurts the recruiting powerhouses the most. They have the most capability of stockpliling elite talent.

In the old days, schools like Texas and 'Bama used to sign like 150 kids, many just to keep them away from other schools.

The fewer scholarship numbers, the more likely parity is ...

This is also, IMHO, why the SEC enacted the 25 member schollie limit, because Slive knew that signing 25 with an 80 man roster wouldn't be that bad of a deal.

is this move intended to help the non-aq's, or to build up 1 AA football?

Division III athletes probably deserve them more.
