Tonight, Bama and Auburn have a baseball game against each other but the outcome will not count in the SEC standings. This game is called the Capital City Classic. If this game is to raise money for a charity then I understand, but if it isn't, then why doesn't two SEC teams squaring off, doesn't count?

Georgia and bama did it last year and this year. I'm pretty sure ours were for charity, I would imagine this one is too. Just a fun little thing to raise money I'd guess.

I think only the weekend series count for SEC play so all the teams play the same amount of games to be included in the SEC record. Most teams aren't going to travel out of state for a mid week game so that limits it to the Mississippi teams and Alabama and Auburn.

It does not count, because it was not scheduled by the conference. The two schools chose to play one of their OOC games against each other.

It has nothing to do with the association with charity.

Thanks guys for telling me the reason that games like this take place. It's really a shame that LSU doesn't have a true instate rival. Tulane screwed itself big time when it left the SEC. Ga.Tech did too, but at least they are in a decent conference. If you talk to older Ga.Tech fans, they will tell you that was a big mistake, leaving the SEC. At one time, Tech had a very heated rivalry with Bama. The older Bama fans told me that Tech was a much bigger game than anyone else on their schedule.

Perhaps but IMHO GT is a better fit in the ACC as a smaller private school with higher academic standards than most SEC schools. GT has competed for and won the ACCC, something they would likely never be able to do in the SEC.

Not true. The Mayor (Melton) quit coming to the Mayor's Trophy game so it was moved to Trustmark Park and it is now called the Governor's Cup. Being played on April 19 this year.

I remember 4-5 years ago when LSU-Tulane played a midweek game in front of like 11k at Zephrr Stadium. Game was on espn I believe. They should do that every year. Just like SC and Clemson do that 3 game set at a neutral stadium in the nc schedule.

LSU FANS - why don't yall do this?

If you all remember back about 5 to 10 years ago there used to be Miss St & Ole Miss vs LSU & Tulane in the Dome before the Season started Skip and Polk put that together back in the early 90's and those games did not count as Conference games but did count towards the seasons totals. That was good for College Baseball and now because of the drop-off there needs to be more of it in order to get the popularity back up again. Here in Baton Rouge we have held the attendance record for the last 12 to 15 years and just wish it was like that in other parts of the Country and there would be more TV games. College Baseball is a lot more fun to watch and also be there in person than Pro ball because of the atmosphere is great.

Also If I am not mistaken didn't Bama Auburn and Georgia and Georgia Tech play the same type of games sometime back? Just asking it seems as though I remember there was something of the sort in the past. That is great for the game more like we just played Cal St Fullerton this past weekend with LSU winning all 3 games. They came in ranked #1 and LSU was Ranked #7 and if that was Football or Basketball TV would have been all over it. We did finaly get Cox Sports to carry the Sunday game.

LSU plays in front of like 11K every weekend game.

LSU and Tulane have been doing a home n home each season for a while now and I guess two games is better than one.

LSU still plays one game a season at Zephyr Field called the Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic for charity. Has been Southern Miss for 2 years now.

Check out espn's college baseball schedule this year. They are showing more reg season games than ever. For guys like you and me that love college baseball, that's a great sign.

I completely agree with what you're saying. I would love for us, yall, state, and Tul to do that in the dome like we used to.

I was looking at that Houston classic at the juice box. It's like 6 texas teams and 2 OOS teams. If they were smart they'd pick OM, LSU, or Arky, the turnouts would be record-shattering.

......ok? My point was that the particular game I watched on ESPN was on a tuesday night and drew over 11k. That's pretty impressive for college baseball since on avg a "good" college baseball crowd (nationally speaking) is 2500.

Thank you for answering my question. However, I do not thank you for being a smart arse prick.
