Does your school retire jerseys/jersey numbers?

If so, what are the criteria for having a jersey retired?

I ask because UT's is RIDICULOUS. You basically have to be a first ballot no questions asked hall of famer in both College and Pro.

Thats obviously controversial because it takes Pro career as much into account as college career, thereby eliminating men like Johnny Majors and Bobby Dodd.

UT players must have
THREE of the following...

•Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame
•SEC Player of the Year
•First Team All-American
•Heisman Trophy winner
•Winner of either the Sullivan Award, Draddy Award, or SEC Athlete of the Year (all sports)
....AND, THREE of the following:

•Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
•NFL Offensive or Defensive MVP
•FIVE Pro Bowl selections
•Own a major single season or career statistical record
...holy cow, that's impossible.

If Alabama retired jerseys we would have run out of numbers by now.

We only have two retired....Archie's (18) and Chucky's (38)

Archie because of all the success he had while at Ole Miss, which has now been surpassed.

Chucky because of what he meant to the team and university.

We should get rid of that ridiculous criteria and just have a panel that votes on it, IMO.

I don't want Bama to retire any jersey's. If we had retired Johnny Musso's, Ingram wouldn't have been #22. The same with #12; Namath, Stabler; Trammell. It's an honor for a player to wear certain numbers at Alabama.

I wasn't aware of this... but now that I think about it, I can't remember an 88s...

If last year is an indicator they won't be retiring any more in the near future

I don't think we have it spelled out anywhere, but we have very few numbers/jerseys actually retired.

Football: Cannon, Casanova

Baseball: Mcdonald, Bertman (maybe)

Basketball: Petit, Maravich, Shaq

You would have to start retiring t-shirts, I guess.

Well that's a dumb statement. Only an Aub would think that way.

Just so happens, Johnny Musso is and has always been one of my favorite players. Having another one of my favorite players, Ingram, wear the same number and bring honor to it only makes it sweeter.

At Alabama, the jersey numbers mean something. The players know Alabama history and tradition and want to wear certain numbers.
