What are your thoughts on Bama's QB situation for 2009. McElroy?

Yes McElroy.... However if Star Jackson has ha good spring it could make things a little interesting... Both have better arms than did John Parker..

McElroy/Jackson will both probably have a shot to prove themselves this year. Next year potentially AJ. All of these should be on par with JPW (except from a game management/experience standpoint).

I think that's the consensus. Most believe McElroy is most likely to start.

While this is a possibility I would be a little more concerned were I you.

A new starter can be rough and if they were so comprable why no playing time before now?

Not flaming at all, but what does bama expect out of the qb position? I have heard what jpw gave last year, but all he gave was experience, and this is what the new qb cannot bring. I agree that the new qb will have a better skill set, but us as LSU fans knew lee had a better arm than Flynn. Also, just to prove I'm not here to argue one way or another, I believe that Jefferson still has a lot to prove to the SEC. He has not endured an entire season, and the defenses he faced last year were some of the worst that we played all year. Just looking for thoughts

He will definitely have growing pains. And there won't be any 'easing him into it.' Week 1 against Bud Foster and VA TECH could get ugly. But I think he'll be alright by the end of the season, and we could easily win 9 or maybe 10 games, even with an unproven QB. Then again, we could also go 6-6.

yall will win 9 games or more but i dont see any of those wins being because of mcelroy. I defiantly see this bama team as a 04 version of LSU with saban.

Great defense... question marks at O-Line, QB and WR. We really needed Bobby Massie. There's no telling how the O-Line will shake out this season. Mike Johnson and Drew Davis will play. Probably Cardwell at center. Past that no clue. Fluker may need time to learn techniques. I shudder to think of hanging him at LT with Greg Hardy across from him.

McElroy won the Texas high School state championship. He's a heady player and better check down passer than JPW, but we don't know how tough he is. JPW could get hammered and get right back up. McElroy doesn't "look" like he could take serious punishment.

We have a bunch of guys that could step in next to Julio at WR, but no one has yet. Out of the group though, surely there will be at least one. Alexander will be no-contact at the start of spring practice due to surgery. Maybe Maze, Hanks, McCoy or one of the new kids can step it up.

Do you think AJ will get redshirted?

The only reason I don't immediately say yes, is that I read something from him saying Saban told him if he came in at a certain weight, he'd get playing time. If I were coach, he'd definitely redshirt.

Smart move

Seriously though I think it could go either way but first year QB's struggle more often than not. You never know, though - one of those guys may step up and really shine.

I'm not and never really have been a JPW fan but I actually don't think he got enough credit for what he did for you guys this season. Solid play for the most part and he really did shine at times. Throw into the mix that he eliminated the huge mistakes from 2007 (MSU int, LSU fumble, etc) and I think he was key to the success Alabama had last year.

Good luck to you next season - I only hope you lose one game really bad (3 guesses which one).

McElroy's statistics

2007 8/9 for 73 yds and 1 TD 88.9 %completion
2008 8/11 123yds 1TD and 1 interception 72.7%completion

I think McElroy will be the starter. These stats are in clean up roles mind you but he will be the one to beat coming into spring practice. Only reason I say this is he has experience and has been in the system longer than Star. We will wait and see

dude had absolutely no business playing the AAA game. he was out manned, out classed and looked like a high school sophomore against the other players on the field. this kid being ranked as high as he was is a complete abomination

I think it'll be McElroy and I think he'll do great. The question is, can the new O-line protect him?

Saban told Blake Sims, a QB recruit, that Star was moving positions and there was a spot for him next year. TIFWIW

I'll remember you said that in 3 years when he's helping kick your team's arse.

I agree. MC Elroy or Star Jackson will be the starter..either one has been through entire game. Mc has an arm..but two passes in two games..One for a Pick...One for a TD against the Barn. We just Gotta hope this does'nt turn into a Jarrett Lee/Kodi Burns nightmare.I got confidence Saban will figure it out by the time we get to The Georgia Dome Sept 5.
