jmo,,,If Jackson grasps the O schemes he has a good chance of being the starter.
As of now, I would say it's McElroys job to lose. No way AJ starts as a true freshman iyam. Too skinny and really needs to add about 20-25 lbs to his frame.

Saban told Blake Sims, a QB recruit, that Star was moving positions and there was a spot for him next year.
Thought you were not going to respond to in of us anymore... But anyway.. If that is the case (which i highly doubt it) What would he tell him about AJ?

1st-year starter success in 08....

Tony Pike-Cincy
Kellen Moore-Bosie
Robert Griffin-Baylor
Terrelle Pryor-Ohio State
Daryll Clark-Penn State
David Johnson-Tulsa
Jevan Snead-Ole Miss

It's not impossible to have a good season as a first year starter. LSU fans tend to assume that just because Jarrett Lee failed miserably, that it will happen to everyone else.

I'm optimistic on how he will do but I am holding out until the spring starts to really get into the whole Alabama QB debate.

I do agree that there are OL issues as far as left takle. I do think that Carpenter will come in and solidify a starting position on the line though.

JPW had issues since he stepped on campus with throwing the football and never really became a GOOD quarterback. Was very average and inconsistent throughout his career.

Jarrett Lee was a RS freshman. McElroy will be a RS junior. There is a pretty good difference there. Again, I know that experience will play a factor at some point during the season--more than likely in the first game against VaTech. We will see how he handles that.

I completely agree (and said as much earlier in this thread).

Believe it or not this is not the reason that I said first year guys tend to struggle. I said it because, more often than not, they do.
Matt Stafford comes to mind. From Wiki:
quote:

Stafford ... struggled in his first year, completing 126 of 235 passes (53.6%) for 1,620 yards, with six touchdowns and 12 interceptions heading into the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl
That's not terrible but not nearly as good as he was/is.

Of course you can find exceptions to the rule (as you did) and it is certainly possible that Alabama finds a star next year - it's just that the odds are that QB may be an issue for you next year. But it may not, who knows.

But now I'm going home so no more for me today

I look at like the Matt Flynn situation. If I'm not mistaken, didn't he just start the last year of his time at LSU?
Greg will have been in the program for 3 years starting in the fall, so I have a good feeling about it.
