Who’s really to blame for offense’s woes?

Oline & Oline coach - Oline supposedly an Ole Miss strength, gets pushed around by Baylor last year, pushed around by SEC competition, pushed around by Texas Tech.

Dart - New system, new school, new coaches, SEC, lack of arm strength. Couldn’t get it done (hence Walker & Sanders).

Charlie Weiss Jr. - inexperienced OC, poor track record, (Is he REALLY calling the plays with NO input from Kiffin?)

Kiffin - He IS calling the plays, he is going for it on 4th down on the 20 yard line, he is running it up the gut and getting stuffed & calling the redzone plays.)

Who is calling the majority of plays? It seems when they work Kiffin gets the credit as an offensive guru. When the plays are questionable it’s Weiss Jr. Who fricked up.

I find it hard to believe Kiffin would let Weiss Jr call the plays, so what is going on?

No pass catchers outside of Malik Heath. We had Mingo playing TE at one point. Dart made horrible interceptions all year. OL was extremely overrated. Weiss Jr brings nothing to the table after the first 2 scripted drives. Lane had one foot out the door. Everyone was to blame besides Judkins he carried the team on his back.

I refuse to believe Kiffin calls the plays when our playcalling last year was immaculate while this year was putrid.

Yes….he obviously is the one calling for us to go for it on 4th and setting the philosophy…but I’ll never be convinced he’s calling the plays.

Our offensive line was terrible in pass protection.

I think the new age of college football is at least partially to blame. Many of them are coming from different systems and schools and only a few really know one another. Despite this, they're expected to gel in just a few months.

Rarely seemed like dart had a clean pocket when throwing. It was always under duress

That stood out to me over and over

Also going for and failing on 4th downs constantly and what potentially cost us games .

Dart also tucks and runs at the slightest whiff of pressure too.

We had the same complaint about Corral his 1st season as a starter.

It'll be interesting to see how/if Dart progresses in his second season.

Our offense wasn't that bad. It put up decent/comparable numbers against LSU, Alabama (outgained them), Ark (outgained them), MSU (they outgained us by one yard) and Texas Tech (outgained them). Dart's ill timed turnovers and Kiffin's ill timed 4th down attempts took a lot of steam out or our offense AND defense. As someone else said, the oline was good at run blocking but not pass blocking (got a new guy for this). I would actually blame Dart's to's and Kiffin going for it more than Weiss' playcalling, but would be very happy to try an new OC. Dart and Weiss with another year under their belts should improve.

Yeah, but Corral also threw for 3500 yards and 29 TDs in his first season.

and 14 picks. He also had Elijah Moore who caught nearly 1200 of those yards.

We didn't have anyone close to Moore on our roster last year.

but regardless.....I'm not saying Dart is the next Matt Corral, I'm just saying Kiffin has history with his quarterbacks making a decent jump after their first full season.

Aside from the to's, Corral had better stats his first season.

He had better weapons his first season.

But stats are for people with short-term memories. Go back and watch his games that season. He starred down receivers and panicked under pressure. Most of his picks were from him never looking safeties off of his targets. Then go watch his last season's games....he made much better decisions and was able to look off the safeties.

I agree he was a better overall qb year two. His to's alone his first year were horrific and cost us games.

We were 17th in the country in red zone possessions and 99th in red zone scoring percentage (79.7%). In five losses, it was 68%

Punch it in a couple more times and we might have gone 10-2 and the whole perspective on the season changes

No doubt. Corral definitely had some tough games in 2020 (Arkansas and LSU come to mine, of course).

Also true. I posted the stats in a thread on tRebRant. Barkley, Sims, and Corral all made good strides.

His turnovers in 2020 are stats too and can't be ignored. They cost us a game at Arkansas and arguably LSU. He didn't cost us any games in 2021 and was a tremendous leader. He also had more total yards in 2021 and just 2 less total TDs.

I swear he threw two picks right to that short white safety for the Hawgs. Hit 'em right in the chest. I remember talking to my friend about whether the lack of fans in the stands made it hard for him to pick out the Arkansas players on the field. I have no idea if he did.

Yep. If we can make a few key tackles and convert a redzone scoring opportunity or two, we could've beaten Bama and State and we're probably playing in the Sugar Bowl again.

Oh whale.
