Time to call a spade a spade

It is time to say this ain't working. If this fun & gun gimmicky offense won't cut it against a middle of the road PAC-12 team then we are going to get our shite pushed in during SEC play. We have athletes on this roster that we're far superior than what Cal fielded last night. Time to take the trash out, burn it all down and start from scratch!

I'm really hoping that we use this next 5 years of suckage to revamp our style. I wish we would try and become a run heavy offense that chips away 4 or 5 yards a play. Our gimmick offense has grown old. Longo bragging about only running 15 plays or so is making him look like an idiot

Time to dole out pink slips from Bjork on down. Hell fire Bjork tomorrow, take a month to find a new AD and let him hire his own coach. In regards to the coaches the only one I think the jury is still out on is McGriff. However, if the new HC wants his own people it is arrivederci Crimedog!

McGriff is Tyrone Nix, Part 2. We were lucky Cal didn't hang as many points on us as USA and UTM did.
A lot of this was the O-line's (Luke's boys) fault and lack of any second half adjustments. Sound familiar?

Luke sucked at being the O-line coach, and I was shocked when he was named interim HC. My initial reaction was WTF- he's a shitty coach, so I haven't/don't expect much out of this season.
If he does manage to scratch out 5-6 wins, I hope we don't offer him the job full time (no matter how cheap his salary is).

We were beaten by a team with far less talent last night in a game that was supposed to be so important to the overall well being of our season. It had been talked about since Day One how important the Cal and Vandy games are since the first two were given wins and the Bama and Auburn games are given losses. Now we're up a creek without paddle. I'd love to know what the psyche of the players is today. I'm sure there are those among us who have a little inside info with that. It can't be great.

I'm not going to say that the fun and fun needs to be 100% abandoned. We have made a name for ourselves with the Fun and gun, and to say that we need to abandon the part of our team that has been the only great part of our team for the past 3 years is incorrect.
That being said, I've been waiting for us to start running the ball for years, and we haven't had a coach that is willing to undercut the fun and gun system at all in that time span. No team can survive a full season with a pass heavy system if you don't have the ability to run the ball consistently. Basically, for us, if Shea isn't on his game or gets shut down, we will have a stretch like we did in the second half last night where we looked like a middle school offense. in this offense, Shea MUST have a good game, or we don't really have a chance.
IMO - time to revamp the running game. Time to recruit running backs that don't go down the first time they get hit and that don't look for contact out of the backfield because they want to be a human highlight reel. Time to stop recruiting dumb offensive linemen who are incompetent to the point where they can't run block. Time to stop hiring coaches who are "up and coming" and hire someone who has been in the game for a long time and realizes that football isn't a gimmicky game.

Just a couple years ago we would have beat that Cal team by 45 points...
We let a bunch of slow Wr's and a 3 star QB out play us...

Offense is a totel of freaking 28 plays.. You need more then 28 plays to beat a SEC team

Run heavy offense? I member we had a RB named Deuce a while back.

Why not throw more option into the game plan?
Posted on 9/18/17 at 10:56 am to Ancient Astronaut
Because our running backs are slow coming out of the backfield and our offensive linemen aren't quick enough to get outside the box and block someone.
Posted on 9/18/17 at 1:42 pm to RebelTheBear
And Shea is not an option style quarterback and if you put him into designed runs more his chances at getting hurt increase exponentially. And yes, our backs are more straight ahead guys if anything. Fact is, it doesn't appear our offensive line can run block much so the pass blocking better be way better than it was Saturday. It's our bread and butter and pretty much our only chance to succeed offensively with the sample size we have to date.

yea about 18 years ago or so

Well I just think maybe we need to get a little more creative when it comes to running the ball. Maybe it's fruitless.

What happen to Eugene Brazley? Did he graduate?
Posted on 9/18/17 at 7:41 pm to Doresrules
Nope he is just far down the depth chart.

Totally forgot about Brazley. Hard to believe he is that far down on the chart.

Cal defense was ranked 115.
Wilkins ain't working. Try Brazley. And we had a small juking RB who I thought did well during the spring game.

I saw Swinney on the sideline and he looked like a short offensive lineman. Can't tell me that is all good weight.
