1) If Hugh didn't get cute in the Redzone we would have likely put 15 more pts on the scoreboard,
2) Why was Conyors playing right guard when Perllin got sacked and coughed up the ball? The pressure last night came from the inside more often than not.
3) Our LBs are very badly coached. They catch tackles as the runners come through holes instead of stepping up and meeting them in the hole.
4) Our DBs are badly coached as well and our secondary calls are pretty much horrible. The 1st half long pass was a bad call and Derrick Jones saved a TD...and why the hell wasn't he playing DB the last 2 years. The 2nd half we played a bunch of cover 1 or cover 0 and did significantly better.
5) SP has a better arm than Kelly and our WR will have to adjust to it. There were several drops because the ball got to the WR a lot faster than they are used too. Also once SP calmed down the aTm DBs were constantly shaking their heads/frustrated with how he was slicing and dicing them

My high school doesn't just leave somebody wide-arse open on the goal line like this. Wommack must go.

SP doesn't have a better arm then Kelly. He does have a quicker release.

The biggest issue our LBs have is taking poor angles to the ball. I don't know who did it last night didn't see the number but on a run play dude ran right past the RB and didn't even touch him. The RB was like 5 yards past the line of scrimmage and the angle he took was closer to the QB.

I disagree. He does have a quicker release but he throws with more velocity. Kelly has an NFL arm but SP's has much better footwork which allows him to always be ready to throw and put more zip on the pass.

Couple things I took away...
1) Shea had so much poise and played like he was wise beyond his years. His ability to escape pressure and throw dimes on the run was AMAZING. You could tell he gave the team a huge emotional lift. Really did remind me a lot of Manziel.
2) The grit that the offensive line showed was admirable. The fact that's conyers gutted it or at C the majority of the game and then got hurt, man that kid gave us all he had. And rawlings coming in and getting us through the rest of the game was another GREAT thing to see. Say what you want, but the OL got it done for the most part.
3) The adjustments made on offense in the 2nd half worked!! We used a lot let Run-Pass options and used a power run game with Judd behind Patterson and it worked. Also, he was dumb to do this in the first place but thankfully Hugh left Shea in, in the redzone. HUGE!
4) The defense played great in the 2nd half and you can see how much a difference Fadol makes in the run game when he is out there. Night and Day. I though Jaylen Jones played a great game against Reynolds. Just impressed with the will our D showed. Finally had some life. Props to them.
5) The WRs made some absolutely HUGE plays that changed the complexion of the game. Stringfellow made two highlight reel catches along with a shoestring grab from Engram, and an acrobatic catch by Pack. They sure made a difference.
6) Finally, Gary "ICE IN HIS VEINS" Wunderlich made the biggest kick of his career in front of 100k+ screaming fans with under a minute left to seal the victory. We don't win without him being our kicker last night.

Overall, the decision to pull the redshirt was the best decision Hugh has made this year. It gave the team the spark they needed last night and it should help us big time in our next two games get to a bowl game. This is huge for our seniors and recruiting. Shea showed that he likely will not be here for a 5th season.

Did anyone else notice the weird-arse cut-blocking our OL was doing in the 4th quarter?

I was watching with the sound off and couldn't devote full attention, so I don't know who was playing C at this point, but they would snap the ball and then immediately fall forward for a cut block instead of standing up to pass block.

It worked, but it was weird as hell to see.

Damnit. I noticed that. We should have called a time out.

Wommack needs to be fired ASAP

Yeah, I honestly just assumed teh center was getting put on his arse until it happened several times in a row and I paid attention. It was purposeful.

First halftime adjustment I've ever seen this season.

I think that is all Rawlings could do in pass protection. With a high ankle sprain you can push forward (painfully) in run blocking but any side to side action in pass protection would risk further injury.

I think we have to wait and see if Shea's arm is better than Chad. I will say that Shea throws a very pretty ball, and, even when on the run, Shea's ball has a lot of zip to it. He gets it out of his hands very quickly, and this plays perfectly into our quick-hitting passing scheme.

The only thing I can think of is chop blocking. Used to slow opposing pass rush. They basically try to take out the knees of the pass rusher or at least slow them up to give the QB enough time to release.

I wasn't too focused on the trenches for this game, but if they were having trouble covering their gaps or not powerful enough to block the opposing defensive linemen, then a chop block would make sense (and can actually be extremely effective although kind of looked down on by many in football).

My HS oline coach had us use the technique against a defensive line we basically could not contain, and it worked wonders. It reallyyy irritates defensive lineman, especially the good ones.

Shea - His footwork and technique is amazing right outta HS. The semi-professional IMG Academy is the real deal. I wish we could get more kids out of there. They're coached better in HS than we currently can at the college level.

Gone unless he gets a lower grade for some weird reason.

I don't see the 40 time needed for early departure. However, he is older (23 I think), so maybe he'll throw his name in the hat.

That catch was just.....sick nasty. Talk about focus and concentration. He bobbled that thing about three or four times with one hand then had the one-hand power to secure it and bring it in all while managing a DB behind him.
