Anyone else have nightmares of us running the ball up the middle on first down?

Seriously. Freeze's play calling in the Alabama game was the epitome of hot and cold. When Freeze stuck to his guns and sent 4/5 wide, we had success moving the ball with ease. Then, when Freeze lined up Engram in the backfield to try and run the ball, we got shut down almost every time.

What was Freeze thinking in trying to run the ball so much? The last two years, we beat Alabama with less than 100 rushing yards. It was obvious early that running the football wasn't going to be an option, yet he continued to call running plays, and it killed our offense early in the second half.

Someone explain.

Everybody, it seems, keeps talking about Ole Miss needing to be more balanced. Why don't we run Judd more, etc., etc.? This was all the talk before the game. Not saying Freeze listens to any of this. No clue there and not likely. But then, by sheer chance most likely, OM makes an effort to run more (yeah, yeah I know it was against Bama) and everybody wants to know why we didn't pass on every down. Then there's all this talk about the passing, hurry up offense taking it's toll on our defense. Not saying you, but people just don't really know what they want. I think some folks only want what they don't have. Bottom line is we miss Wilkins (and we sure miss Walton from last year), our guys ain't gonna move Bama's Dline around much. Maybe it was misguided for us to try and run so much on first down and constantly get behind the chains. I think the real point is, nobody has a great answer. It's a tricky situation. These coaches are pretty damn sharp and work their asses off. If it can be figured out, they will do it.

Someone astutely pointed out in a previous thread that this youngish OLine has face 2 future NFL defensive line the likes we won't see agin for the rest of the year! For the record the first TD was a Judd run! I think we will likely see immense improvement in the running game once we aren't facing NFL starters accross the board! Judd, Brazzly, Pennemon and DK will do just fine. Yes we miss Wilkins but this is the hand we were dealt in 2016 now let's play it out. This week will show what this team is really made of. Rather than disaster I expect this week to be our finest hour because that's what character prescribes.

Yeah it's kind of relative. If we win the game everyone is talking about how we put up 500+ yards of offense on Bama.

I had a thread a couple of days ago about fixing the running game. Trust me, I want a more balanced offense that is able to run the ball somewhat effectively. However, I am not questioning the game plan, as Freeze obviously wanted to run the ball more against Alabama given the number of running plays called over the course of the game.

What I am questioning is Freeze's decision to continuously run the ball when it was obvious early that it wasn't going to work. I wanted a healthy dose of Judd before the game, but beyond the first drive, the run game was basically non-existent.

Yet, despite the struggles Judd and our O-Line had, we still kept running the ball, whereas we were having a good bit of success in the passing game. Freeze should have made the necessary adjustments in order to place more emphasis on the passing game. We would have had a better chance to win the game in the end if Freeze stuck with what was working for us.

Yep, not really arguing your points, just some fans in general.
