Per Ross Bjork in an interview with Mississippi Today.
No variation of Dixie will be played by the band.

When I was young hearing From Dixie With Love for the first time in VHS was the real start of football season. I hope the dumbass people who couldn't stop yelling the south will rise again are happy now.

The words Dixie drive such political faux outrage, they butchered the song with the changes they made to it. And yet they are still removing it now.
So this doesn't have anything to do with that part of the song because they are removing it entirely, it has to do with the song being called Dixie.
And people not honoring a beautiful song

I'm glad they're getting rid of that song they put in place of FDWL. They tried to compromise to play PC but they removed the crescendo which is the most important part of the song. After 03 anyone with a brain knew this was going to happen. What is funny to me is the lie was that was consistently bandied about was that removing old south images would result in better results in all sports.

Posted this a few years ago on this board. They told the band that they were going to phase it out.

They have been talking about getting rid of it since 98. Mr. Willson told us then it was a matter of when, not if.

Yep. I'm surprised it took this long.

Good. Now we can pump in more terrible arse rap songs at the games.

I'm a African American male who loves the song played by a band. I actually have it on my phone. If you were new to the country, had no idea what the words were or some of the negative connotation I think one would be hard pressed to not like the song.
That being said, I can remember as a kid listening to the song at a game around a stadium that was 90% white and having a weird you don't belong here feeling. I know that sounds bad, but it was a weird feeling.
So I get both sides of the fence. From just a musical standpoint and as a former drummer I absolutely love the song. Outside of house of the rising sun to me there just isn't a better song. The connotation that comes with the song and the idiots screaming that chant at some point most assumed this day would come.

I can't believe they took Dixie away. Those Yankees MF need to go back up north. Honestly I've gone to Ole Miss games my whole life and I never pay attention to the band. I remember 09 LSU game was when the KKK came to Oxford because we stopped playing Dixie. I remember the higher ups at the University releasing statements telling people to stop saying the south will rise again at the end of Dixie. They never stopped saying it at games so they stopped playing the song.

What's next, OM, Rebels, Red & Blue, or the Grey pants?

I honestly thought it would be long gone by now. When I got there in the late 90s you could already see the writing on the wall and I assumed it went away after I graduated. I visited 2 years back and heard it and was surprised.
I think it is interesting that it goes away once the negative connotations have become a think of the past for most of the fanbase. I know very few anymore that gave politics a single thought when it was played.
