I know some folks like to rub a pregnant woman but if I see a dog, I have the desire to pet him. Not after licking Tebow tho.

I’m all in favor of a Lab being our permanent mascot. Probably the least controversial pick we could make.

Does Tony even show up for basketball games? He has definitely gone away quietly

This is the only way to properly phase out a bad mascot. Don't make a big public deal about it.

Tony scared the children (and some adults too, tbh) and was wildly unpopular. My understanding is that they got rid of the costume a couple of years ago. You're right though. Not making a big public deal out of it was the right move. They just did away with costumed characters altogether. Plus people kept thinking we were the Landsharks and not the Rebels, which was never the case.

Looking back on it, the bear wasn’t that bad of a mascot choice. I still have no idea what lead to them getting rid of that and replacing it with the landshark

I was a student at the time they changed it. To my understanding, the change occurred bc every sports team used the "fins up" hand sign to some extent. So the switch basically tied all of our athletics together.

The only problem people had with the bear was it wasn't Col. Rebel. People just couldn't let go.

When you look at the primary purpose behind a mascot(liked by children and marketable for merch), the Bear was a perfect mascot.

It really was. I will forever defend it as well. I wrote a letter to the University to create an on campus bear habitat.

I’ll die on the hill that we don’t need a mascot and we will never need a mascot. If anything we (as in small time apparel providers) can just do unofficial mascots depending on whatever theme happens to arise over time, but the university would be smart to never officially endorse another mascot ever again

At this point, I agree.
