Incoherant ramblings, but thought I'd bring this topic up for discussion sake

Will Ole Miss Athletics, and Ole Miss in general, ever regress as it once did in the 70s, 80s, and some of the 90s? Or is the school doing so well, the fanbase has grown too large, and we demand such a high level of excellence that we will never fall back into apathy?

Between the Archie era and Tommy Tuberville coming to campus in 1995, the fanbase did not grow, our facilities weren't improved, and apathy set in the alumni base. The University itself was not in a great condition, and attendance was at very low levels.

I say all that because we all say "well, we don't have basketball tradition. Nobody cares like football or baseball." What I'm seeing is that we are on a 20+ year ride where basketball attendance has improved, the student body/alumni base has grown, and we've improved our facilities so much. Why can't we be successful at everything? What's holding us back at this point? And how the hell did it get to be so bad in the 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s, considering we were once a power?

When Oxford started to grow and remodel itself, it drew more people in. As long as Oxford is doing well then I think Ole Miss will do the same.

It started with the Ole Miss leadership. During the late 70s, they just didn't spend any money. Khayat, for all of his faults, opened the coffers to update and improve the campus. I think that every single building had to be renovated.

This new guy chancellor makes me nervous. If he doesn't let us spend like we need to, then we will slide right back where we were.

As long as we have Freeze and Bjork, we should be good. They are great ambassadors for our university. But leadership is fickle at best. Look no further to SCAR and UT to see that bad leadership will send your entire athletics department down the tubes.

Let's see.

Aren't we winning in all the three major sports now.

20 win seasons in basketball, solid coach, no matter what you say. The Basketbears continue to make half time adjustments and win games. That's coaching. Another Mississippian at the helm.

Baseball team finally got to Omaha, Bianco is solid year in and year out.

Hugh Freeze is just getting cranked up and we have gone to two New Year's 6 bowl games the last two years.

By my standards, these last 4 years have been some of the best ever at Ole Miss.

It appears we will be on a continuous improvement plan in each sport until we win championships. Plenty of SEC money rolling in to make it happen.

Archie Manning is the acting CEO and seems to have things well under control for the first time in 46 years.

As the University and the city grows, the athletic department will become less and less susceptible to going down the drain. With all the money and support the AD receives now, the chances of us reverting to being shite have become smaller and smaller.

You're always just a bad hire / letting someone stick around too long away from sucking in something.

Texas is crap in football right now and they have about a bajillion more dollars than either of our schools.
