We won't have a clue till the end of the season... No one will request a redshirt until then anyway

There are four that may not in Lodge, Jefferson, Woods, and Patterson, the latter two will play for sure. Everyone else will RS unless multiple injuries occur

Lodge, Jefferson,

With the receivers y'all already have why wouldn't both of these guys redshirt?

Other than the obvious promise of playing time during recruiting, which is plenty of reason itself.

Shouldn't Pack really start to blossom this year?

I think by the end of the season one of them will play for sure, they came in ready to play, especially Jefferson. I can imagine they personally would not like to redshirt, but obviously the coaches can try to talk them into it if necessary.

Pack apparently has made lots of strides this spring/summer and should see regular snaps this year.

I mean in most cases guys like Lodge and Jefferson would play immediately but from the outside looking in it just seems like you may not need them this year and it would benefit the program to save that year of eligibility.

Obviously the players don't have the same POV as a coach running a program. Kids that talented are going to want to play right away.

Maybe they want to get some use out of them because they think they will be gone in 3 years anyways?

I think Lodge has the potential to be a 3 year guy and from reading between the lines during the recruitment of Jefferson, we promised him playing time.

Yeah, I think it's tough for HS kids that were 4/5 star guys to deal mentally with the thought of RS'ing.

Sometimes players would rather just get minimal snaps instead of sitting out an entire year.

I can imagine it's a bit of a lonely feeling not being part of the on-field team after coming in with high personal expectations.

Aside from Swinney, I don't think anyone knows for sure. Givens and Howard almost certainly will. I figure the same goes for Robinson, Donnely, and Pellerin. At least a couple of the freshman DBs probably will, too.

I think Pellerin could take the Liggins role from last year.

I mean I get that, but with the WRs they already have if they don't play, or play minimally, what's the point of not getting that extra year of eligibility just in case?

I mean Treadwell went down last year, it can happen to anyone. Sometimes even the most talented players need more time, whether it be injuries or whatever.

He will eventually if he doesnt this year. It would be great to be able to RS him just in-case Shea leaves after year 3.

That's possible. I'd rather see Liggins stay in that role than burn Pellerin's redshirt. I guess it depends on the circumstances. On 4th and 1, I'll take Liggins every time. Pellerin may be the better option in a different situation.

As of yesterday, Grant Heard suggested that Jefferson and Lodge both might redshirt. For what it's worth, the title of the post was "Most Ole Miss freshmen will be redshirted."

quote:

Receivers coach Grant Heard said his highest rated signees, DaMarkus Lodge and Van Jefferson, have looked “like freshmen” and that he was unclear if they would play this season.

Freeze said Jefferson won't play Saturday and will probably RS. And that he is going to have a talk with Lode and his parents to do determine whether he will play this year
