I called my buddy, he said more than likely the timing could be off and would be about a $50 fix. Told him the condition and he said minimum value was probably $800ish as a starting point.

Went back to the guy and before I could say anything, he apologized for not checking it out and said he would trade even for the Glock and ammo. I shook hands, did the paperwork, got it home and cleaned it and not a thing wrong with it. Still locks up tight like a new gun. Serial # dates it's manufacture to 1918, so it likely went overseas with someone during WW I.

Now I want a Patton sword, a WW I helmet and a couple other things to make a nice display.

You stole it. Solid score, it really is.

The Patton era sabars are hard to come by, at least the authentic ones are. Doughboy helmets are starting to come on the market a little bit ... gunbroker is probably the safest place to find one that is authentic.

That's where I see them somewhat regularly. Just haven't been able to part with 1000ish bucks for a sword to hang on the wall yet.

When I do, I'm hoping to get a Springfield as well. My Smith has the bomb insignia stamped and the Springfield Patton swords do as well.
