BHP are exceptional pistols. I foolishly traded one away years ago for something completely forgettable.

The Shield is a great gun for your wife.

If you want a gun that will put some hair on your balls, go with a Beretta 92-FS/M9, Sig P320 or Glock 17. They don't pussy foot around like the Shield.

Don't get me wrong, the Shield is a great gun. But it's tiny and unless you use the extended mag, your pinky will be hanging off. It's really just a concealed carry gun.

Was looking through reviews earlier and came across this:

quote:

The eight-round magazine provided a full-fisted grip for my medium-sized hands, while the seven-rounder would work best for people who have tiny hands or whose pinkies have at some time in the past suffered a catastrophic bologna slicer accident.

As far as manual safeties go, are there any thoughts on for/against? I've always thought that it was a "need to have", but a lot of the reviews/research seems to point away from them... Assuming this is more of a preference thing, as long as everyone who would be using the weapon is properly trained?

Yarp.

I prefer having it, because I carry with one in the chamber, and it isn't hard to flick it with my thumb as I grab it. Having it just makes me a bit more comfortable carrying.

I don't have large hands, and my pinky also hangs off with the 7 rd mag. However, it really isn't that big of a deal.

You could also try the Walther PPQ. Incredibly comfortable to hold, its the most ergonomic gun I've ever handled. Feels like part of you when you grip it.

Downside, its definitely bigger/harder to conceal.

Read my post explaining that statement later in the thread.

If the gun doesn't have an affirmative safety, you just don't carry with a round in the chamber. Still just as safe. But you need to train with it to acquire the muscle memory needed to rack a round quickly in an emergency situation.

Glock triggers only take about 5 pounds of pressure to pull the trigger back, so if you walk around with a chambered round, you're asking for trouble.

I recently picked up a Beretta Nano 9mm and love it so far. It's a subcompact though.

What sort of sorcery is this? How did you take a picture when your phone is sitting right there?

Shot a hi-power once. I prefer the CZ 75 on that platform, or CZ 75 compact. Best gun dollar for dollar that I've ever purchased

What? Many guns don't have a manual safety. If you have a good holster that covers the safety like it should you really don't have to worry about a safety. The holster must be made for the gun and the gun fits in the holster to where the trigger is covered.

Have never shot the CZ but looking into them it might be worth it to buy one and put the Browning up for safe keeping.
