Why are Maryland teams obsessed with their state flag?

I understand the history behind the flag(it's the family crest of Lord Baltimore and the Calverts who are my ancestors) but I think it's ugly. All of their pro sports and college teams for some reason feel the need to incorporate it into their uniforms. The color rush uniforms for the Ravens are apparently going to be flag-themed and it's getting kind of ridiculous.

Sorry the Alabama flag is boring looking.

I would guess Texans are a bit more obsessed with their flag. But at least the Texas flag looks pretty good.
It's a matter of state pride. Maryland is bordered by Virginia and Pennsylvania, two states with a ton of Us history and historical figures stretching back to Jamestown.
DC refused to take any part of Maryland
All that Maryland has is that stupid flag.
(And a football team whose best franchise player murdered two people. )

I mean, it's pretty sweet.
It beats all of the ones I've lived in.

Didn't realize how shitty those all look together.

I am completely biased, but I like the TN flag.

After moving to Colorado, the state flag/C is what I assumed to something touristy turned out to be more of a state pride thing. It is all over the place in terms of clothing, stickers, and basically anything with a logo

You're goddamned right.
One of the proudest moments in closing on my new house was putting up the Texas flag out front.
My firstborn shall be swaddled in Texas flag and Texas Aggie paraphernalia
MD's flag is cool af, though

Simple, yet striking.
Eight stars of gold on a field of blue,
Alaska's flag, may it mean to you,
The blue of the sea, the evening sky,
The mountain lakes and the flowers nearby,
The gold of the early sourdough's dreams,
The precious gold of the hills and streams,
The brilliant stars in the northern sky,
The "Bear," the "Dipper," and shining high,
The great North Star with its steady light,
O'er land and sea a beacon bright,
Alaska's flag to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier.
Alaskas Flag Song

This is one of the best looking flags in the US:
And the Maryland flag is a visual atrocity.

That looks Islamic
Yeah, because a Palmetto tree and a crescent moon (or a gorget, depending on which side of that argument you side with) are totally Islamic symbols.
ETA: And regardless of whether ppl like the SC flag or not, I still firmly stand behind the assertion that the Maryland flag is a visual atrocity.

ETA: Makes sense though seeing as how the roads in SC remind me of Iraq

SC state flag is one of the best state flags in the country.

I see where the gorget resemblance comes in, but the remainder of the flag looks nothing like that. And the gorget/crescent moon is a small feature on our flag..not front and center prominent like that one.
Out of curiosity (and bc I'm too lazy to google this morning), do you know if that is representing a gorget or is it a reference to something else?
