Who was more brutal, Hitler's SS or the Italian mafia?

Friend of mine swears the mafia was more brutal to those who were rats, but I don't think they come close to what some of the Nazis had done during WWII

I say the Nazis because the mafia at least seems to have rules. Also they seem to mostly kill those who knew the risk before joining their ranks.

If you weren't immediately gassed, incarceration in a place like Treblnka or Auschwitz amounted to prolonged death, literally being worked and starved to death over a period of time. The starvation factor leans heavily against SS methods of systematic slavery and murder.

No he's really not even a friend, just an acqaintance. I was talking about how powerful the third reich was. Then I referenced the brutality of the Japanese and Germans then he said those guys weren't as tough or brutal as the Italian mafia.
So I bring that part of the conversation here to see if anyone else really does believe this

Tell him to google Nanking Massacre. He should feel like a moron after seeing that. The mob didn't exactly torture people unless they needed information out of them that they wouldn't give up lightly. They tended to be fans of fast and effective means to kill their targets, and they didn't typically go after entire populations. The mob didn't take prisoners unless they needed info, and then they'd either kill them or let them go from there. They also got a bit nasty when they needed outsiders to do their bidding, but they'd let them go on their merry little way if they complied with them.
You wouldn't get that from the Nazis and Japanese. They were a bit more creative than the mob was when it came to killing people, and in far greater numbers than the mob could possibly fathom as well. Two Japanese officers had a contest on who could be the first to kill 100 men with a sword. Well, they lost count and greatly surpassed their hundred quota, so they did the contest again, this time with 150 being the goal.
