I think a while ago we had a shitstorm brewing in the white privilege thread because of this reason.
I agree with the sentiment, but some equality sure would be nice at this moment.
Privilege only extends so far.

Agree. The existence of hate crimes only serves to divide and worsen race relations. See this thread for example...one instance isn't labeled a hate crime and one side is pissed off. If it's labeled a hate crime the other side is pissed off.
Just label it a crime and be done with it.
1. I agree that the entire notion of hate crimes is ridiculous. For example, if somebody murders or beats another person, their crime isn't any more heinous because they did for racist reasons rather than for some other reason.
2. With that said, why would this be classified as a hate crime when you have black victims as well as white? When you reportedly had whites as well as blacks participating in the mob?

This kind of reminds me of the claims in Ferguson who said White Anarchists were the ones doing all of the damage -- yet none seemed to be caught on camera.
Similarly, none seemed to be caught on camera here, either.
I'll also wait until the official names of the victims are released (I've heard this trope before) -- if they are to be released. I know they're withholding the white victim (17 years old), but not his father.

So you're disputing what? That there were black victims? Or that whites were participating in the mob?
I'm not sure how you can dispute the first?

The only confirmed black victim was the one involved in the fight at Cici's, I haven't seen anyone on tape getting battered or coming forward to say that they have and all we have otherwise is an anonymous witness.

Or that whites were participating in the mob?
I'm sure a white person got swept up in the mob but I didn't see anyone of a lighter complexion stomping on the kid's head.
Gonna need more than a random nameless eyewitness if you don't mind.

Black mob beats up a white kid for no reason
Yet it's not racially motivated?
And where are these white people in the mob?

There's a black kid getting beaten in the video you linked to in the OP. Towards the end you can see him in a blue Kroger shirt with a safety-vest on. He's not squarely in frame but he's on the ground getting wailed on.
Even if you don't accept that there white people participating in the mob itself, it's undeniable that the victims included blacks. Nothing you posted in the OP even states that all of the victims were white, so I'm not sure where you got that idea from in the first place.

The guy fighting the dude in a gray shirt? He's not getting wailed on, he's getting dragged away by the dude trying to break the fight up.

Because we're including a person in the initial Cici's fight as black -- and in my opinion is not a victim if in a mutual fight.
There are no other black victims, and it's clear that the guy in the blue protect vest was not rendered unconscious as the other Kroger Employee was.

So because he wasn't beaten as severely he doesn't count? That's an interesting point of view.

Why do you care if it was a hate crime or not? You're not even in America. Shouldn't you be more worried about hate crimes at Sorianas?

Don't worry everyone.
Eric Holder is on top of this.

Can you point out the black victim for me other than the security guard who ran out?

No, you idiot.
The two Kroger employees who were assaulted were knocked out.
He was not.
Do you understand now?

That's insane.
EDIT:
Whoa whoa whoa.
You mean to tell me the police, hearing that a pearly white skinned fellow was in distress, didn't respond faster?
Why didn't he just pick up his honky hootenanny hoedown hotline and cash in on his privilege?

Memphis ain't no joke.
One time I was walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel?

Sure. Go to the 56 second mark of the video in the OP. You see the security guard pulling a black Kroger employee (wearing purple/blue shirt and safety vest) away from a group of people including one in a bright white outfit who were assaulting him.

The guy I am talking about is one of the Kroger employees. The other Kroger employee appears to be the white guy who is the one seeing being assaulted and kicked while he's down in the first part of the video.
According to this article, there were only three people attacked: two Kroger employees and one guy who started recording what he thought was a harmless flash mob. This article (in contrast with the first article I posted) identifies two white victims: the anonymous victim who avoided being injured too severely by fleeing into the Kroger and the white employee seen being beaten down in the video. Again, the other employee was the black guy briefly seen in the video.
So, please, post a source, any source, that supports this assertion of yours that you, for some reason, insist upon clinging to, that all of the victims were white.

Would you say there was any racial element to the initial attack (of the white guy) in your opinion? I go back and forth, but I'm curious what your opinion is.
