It all depends on the whisky and your personal preference.

That is how I drink mine. Really opens it up.

I usually drink my scotch with a single ice cube, but every now and then I take it neat.

Sometimes a drop completely changes the scotch.

believe it or not, some ppl can tell the difference between blended and single malt. room temp is the only way to drink it imo.

My preference is a speyside single malt and a cube of ice or two, depending on how much I feel like pouring. Every once in a while I'll take it neat but I'm just not a big fan of room temp drinks. Basil Hayden is a very nice substitute. If I get a hankering for scotch at the bar I usually curb the craving with a double crown and water.

My dad has been a blended scotch drinker for as many years as I've known him. It's pretty much that or Budweiser with the occasional Bloody Mary over holidays, hunting camps, etc.

I like blended scotch alright but not enough to make it my go to. Anyone care to recommend a good introductory single malt that won't break the bank and can be found at most decent package stores? I'd like to give it a go, just don't know where to start.

My first was Glenlivet 15, and it's still one of my favorites. It's a speyside, so it's not so peaty (or peaty at all) and it's pretty light. Any speyside is probably a pretty good starter scotch.

If you like a heavy, smokey flavor in your whisky, then try an Islay. Laphroaig 10 would be a good bet.

Glenfiddich 12. single mart from speyside region. no peat taste has crispy sweet back end. their 15 has a little more of a band end oak kick to it. personal go to has recently been The Macallan 15 but wouldnt recommend spending that much without knowing if you like it.

I agree. Something about our society trains us to believe that drinks are more refreshing while either chilled or piping hot, but never just room temperature. Someone told me that drinking beer from a frosted glass is also pretty much an American thing.
