I've been there too, but don't consider it a major international city.

Eta: Montreal & Toronto
My wife is from England and we used to visit her family quite often, and we would try to see another city while we were there. Travel once you are in Europe is very cheap.

Beijing. Traveled more Chinese cities than that, but am not sure if people would know them.

Rio de Janerio. I actually remember a good part of it.

I want to go to Italy as well, but I doubt I'll ever convince my husband to go.
OMG dude y'all gotta go! Italy is amazing! Friendliest people on the planet. Why wouldn't he wanna go?
We've been to:
Barcelona, Spain
Naples, Italy (Pompeii is nearby and it's AWESOME)
Rome
Florence, Italy (my favorite. Beautiful city and wonderful people. Amazing food and wine.)
Marseilles, France (frick this place. Notre Dame cathedral was gorgeous but the people were super rude even though I attempted to speak in French with them.)
Palma de Majorca, Spain (beautiful island. Beautiful beach. Don't think this counts for this post, but I been here!)
Italy is absolutely amazing. Everywhere we went the people were super friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome!

I found the French to be some of the nicest people that I've ever been around. I don't understand what you people do to make them rude.

You're a rude person so you fit right in

I really don't know!
I know some French from college and I did my best, but once that ran out they didn't even attempt to communicate anymore.
Unlike the Italians, where I knew NONE of the language and they still went out of their way to make us feel at home. Loved it. Would move there.

That's not true at all. I'm far less crass IRL. I even get along perfectly with conservatives and Christians IRL.

Dubai was fun and superficial while Abu Dhabi definitely felt like they weren't trying to achieve a facade. If Dubai is Las Vegas Abu Dhabi is more like a Houston. I was a political guest of Abu Dhabi so really didn't get a chance to get a truly good feel. Hard to get a read on a place when you have armed guards and on a schedule.
