And how can you tell that you've crossed it?

The edge of Texas.

You can tell you crossed it when you stop seeing football stuff. Bumper stickers, shirts, hats, flags, etc

East Texas. For me it is when I quit seeing pinetrees. The rest of Texas has a different feel to me. It is definitely not West Coast, Midwest, yankee, etc. It is Texan. I feel the same way about Oklahoma.

When you see more Mexicans than black folk you've gone to far.

I would say there's a north/south line where the pine trees end and that line is just west of Houston, and barely encompasses College Station as it makes its way north towards eastern burbs of Dallas. It's still a little swampy north and east of Houston.

Going west, The South ends where Louisiana stops.

I don't think there is a bright line, but if I had to pick somewhere, I'd say the road from Dallas to Austin is a pretty good spot. Everything East of Dallas has at least something of a southern feel, but once you go west of Dallas and Austin it feels more western to me.

Thanks everyone.

I'm going to place I-45 as the theoretical western boundary with US-59 as the more likely one.

Most of Texas is not Southern, but Texarkana, Marshall, Lufkin, etc. are very much like parts of the South I've traveled in.

Nah he took way too big a chunk out of Texas. It should be a small sliver down the east side.
