Someone please... open a history book.

Virginia is the Northern most part of the South. West Virginia is not part of the South. Missouri is a half and halfer. Texas WAS the South, now they're the center of the universe. (At least in their minds)

Now, Missy? Shame on you!

There was very little difference in where my parents grew up in Arkansas and where I grew up in Missouri. Pretty much the same. Where I grew up? You can get in-state tuition at Ole Miss because it's actually a little closer than Columbia, Missouri.

Parts of Missouri are. Southern.

Lots of these people will not see reason.

But I am from St. Louis, so I might as well be from New York to them. Although its funny because to my East Coast friends, I might as well be from Huntsville. Cant win.

arts of Missouri are definitely south. Where I few up is, for sure. I agree with Stripes - south of I-44, and between I-44 and I-70 is questionable.

Parts definitely are. I-44 is probably about right. I know that as I head down I-55 toward Arkansas, as soon as I start seeing cotton fields I'd consider that part of the south.

You're right, semo.

There's no difference in the northern third of Arky & southern Missouri. We go to Big Cedar on Table Rock Lake during the Fall, and I still think we're in Arkansas.

Sorry about that; you are definitely Southern.

Big Cedar is beautiful, I love it there. My parents are from NE Arkansas, around Jonesboro, and I grew up in Cape. It's basically the same thing. A lot of Appalachian and Southern influence in Arkansas and southern Missouri.

All of Kentucky is not Southern. Louisville is a mid-western city and people from Northern Kentucky claim to be Cincinnati.

It's incredible. I'd drop everything, move there, & live in one of the little cabins forevermore if I could.

I think it's been well documented that the answer is the Mason-Dixon Line. Am I wrong?

Pretty much agree with this. Virginia has too many liberal Yankees now and is no longer part of the South.

Here is the Confederate statue on the Bentonville town square, about 20 miles north of Fayetteville.

In my mind, the south ends abruptly in the NW corner of Arkansas.

Hmmm......here is a pic of the Confederate Cemetery in Higginsville, MO, not far from Kansas City. Missouri.

It might not be as big or impressive as others. But, it's part of our history.

If we're gonna get into Civil War stuff again. If not, fine. The southern half of Missouri is still Southern - IMO.
