This is as close as to a hymn as I can think of, as far as what I enjoy.

"Beulah Land" for gospel and "Wayfaring Stranger" for secular.

Edit John Prine.

Old Rugged Cross.

I can still hear my pawpaw standing behind me singing it like it was yesterday.

O God, Our Help in Ages Past - I actually love hymns with the organ pounding so loudly your insides shake. There's nothing quite like it. This is one that stands out to me as one of my favorites.... I plan on it being the recessional hymn at my funeral

Definitely agree with you on the organ or better yet a full on orchestra playing these songs. I like all kinds of music but NOTHING stirs me like a major philharmonic orchestra with a large choir playing traditional hymns.

I never buy stuff off the infomercials but went ahead and bought the "101 Most Loved Hymns" which is a compilation of short verse versions of all the popular hymns played and sung by a large orchestra and choir. It is incredible. Some highlights from that CD:

Praise To The Lord (chill bump inducing)
For The Beauty of the Earth
God Our Help In Ages Past
Abide With Me (absolutely beautiful song I want played at my funeral)
Immortal, Invisible God only wise.......
Christ, the Solid Rock
and many others.....

Seriously, that 2 CD set may be the best $19.99 I've ever spent and it is BY FAR the best versions of any of those songs I've ever heard.
