I live on an island, work on the mainland. The only problem I have is on the bridge connecting the two. Outside of that, the roads are flat and well maintained in winter. Sometimes you gotta drive 40 mph, but the traffic isn't bad.

The snow here doesn't bother me that much. We get enough snow in the winters that we have a serviceable transportation department that gets it pretty well cleared unless we start getting 1/2 foot or better in one snow.

It's the ice that's an absolute pain in the arse. And unfortunately, despite dealing with all their lives here, most people don't know how to drive on it.

My biggest worry right now is with all of the construction they've done on major interstates and the current bridge construction that there may be drainage issues.

The bridge sucks in clear winter weather, we get winds coming from the ice field called the Taku Winds that can reach over 100 mph. Combine that with ice on the bridge, and it can suck if you're not careful.

It's a 10 minute drive no traffic basically until near the schools. If the buses are pulling in then it's 15 minutes.

Advantages of living in 15k town

At night it's 10 minutes no traffic unless by state border.

30 minutes garage to desk in the morning.

Evenings are longer, more like 50 to 45 minutes.

I hate driving.

I was semiretired and the thing I enjoyed most was not ever being in traffic.
