Knoxville is kind of gritty and a little dirty. To me, that's its charm. I think it's a pretty unpretentious place.
Chattanooga and Nashville offer more as cities, but I think Knoxville offers more in surrounding outdoors shite.

Disagree on Chatt being better than Knoxville. Knox county has over 100k more people than Hamilton County and the Knoxville metro has 300k more than Chatt metro.
Their Fiber Internet is awesome, Proximity to ATL is convenient, and UTC is decent. Other than the fiber ISP there's no way I'd take Chatt over Knoxville. It is a cool little city though

Ha, I knew someone would respond to that part. Knoxville has the Cumberland mtns on one side and the Smoky mtns on the other along with a ton of lakes and rivers. I know Chatt has that stuff too, but to a lesser degree IMO. I'd say Chatt has better mtn bike trails, but Knoxville has better hiking and fishing. IMO of course.
I prefer Knoxville, but wouldn't complain about living in Chattanooga. They did a nice job revitalizing their downtown area.

Tennessee is my second favorite state besides Missouri... I've considered living there after I graduate. It's the only state besides Missouri that borders 8 other states and the only state that has more caves than Missouri.
I've spent a weekend in Memphis and drove through most of the state including Nashville on my way to Atlanta in December. Nice scenery and the mountains are really cool. Chattanooga was cool as well. Tennessee

I'd say they are equal in that regard. Both are pretty much an outdoorsmans paradise.
Nashville is underrated IMO. You have the cumberland River and it is surrounded by two different lakes.

Born and raised in southern Louisiana, and I put Tennessee in the top five states in the country.

It's really a nice state I have no idea why Georgia ever sold it along with Alabama & Mississippi.

Same river runs through here as Knoxville.
Hiking and fishing are tops in the state.
They hold the big bass tourneys on Chickamauga for a reason.
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirms New Largemouth Bass Fishing Record
This baby was caught here 9 days ago.
Gabe Keen holds his new state record bass caught on Chickamauga Lake on February 13th. The record fish broke the previous mark which stood for more than 60 years. (Richard Simms, Scenic City Fishing Charters)

My maternal grandparents are from Chattanooga, so I like Tennessee.

Sweet! And caught in winter. What was the weight? I think the previous record was like 16 lbs caught in the 50s.

The new state record fish weighs in at 15 pounds, 3 ounces.
The new mark surpasses the record which had stood since October 17th, 1954. James “Logue” Barnett had the previous long-standing mark of 14 pounds, 8 ounces with his fish caught on Sugar Creek in Lawrence County.

I went to Bonnaroo 5 times back when I was a festival kid. I love Tennessee because of all the good memories there.

I'm glad you feel this way.
It seems we both have our preferences.

Chattanooga is one of the few places I could move to. Neat little town. It does have a growing population of hipster doofuses (doofi?), though.
