in 5th grade we had a 2 month long sub for a teacher on maternity and one of my friends acted like a special needs kid the whole time and left every day to "go to the resource room" i.e. drink cokes in the gym with his PALS helper (other friend.)
the sub had just got her degree and was trying to get hired on full time. she was so jilted when she found out that she quit early and went to work for a bank. no idea if she ever tried to find another teaching job.
at the time it was hilarious, but in retrospect....

I went to a small HS in a rural town in Arkansas. We had a quiz one day in 11th grade history where we had to label each state on a map in the USA. This kid next to me got 3... I looked at Mississippi and he had it labeled New Orleans

Probably not the dumbest thing I have heard, but I give bell ringers from time to time to start the class off.
This particular one was what would you do if you woke up in a foreign country, alone with no id, and nobody spoke English. Something along that line.
Well the kids decided to say what country they were dropped in. All was well until one young lady stood up and said "If I woke up one day in Hawaii..."
I stopped her and reminded her it was suppose to be a foreign country. She gave me the biggest duh look and slowly said to me Ha Wa E, Ha Wa E!

I told my 6th grade art teacher her class was worthless. Almost got me suspended.
