Southern Flight 242. 72 fatalities, and only 22 survivors. And I owe my life to the first officer, Lyman Keele, and I will never be able to thank him.

My Mom was a flight attendant on it. I am only 35 now.

I imagine that was very traumatic on your mom. I was about 5 and don't remember this tragedy.

I'm amazed she is still flying to this day. Though she will never fly on this day.
But she was there for a reason, and it was to save lives.

I am in awe of her courage and fortitude. In reading about the accident, she and her fellow flight attendant kept their composure and went about helping people out of the burning plane.
Just incredible.

On the bright side, be glad that was the worst aviation accident in GA history and not this.
If it had been much worse, this board would have one less LSU fan.
(nb4 that's a good thing.)

Sounds like your mom is a hero.

that means a lot. I was so proud of her, when we went to the memorial service last year, and I had multiple people, come up to me, and call her a hero.
She was just being the great person she is. As I said, our hero was Lyman Keele.

As others have said, your mother is a hero. What an incredible story, and may the ones that perished Rest in Peace.

And condolences to their families.
If you can find it. The special done by The Weather Channel was very good. One of the episodes of, "Why Planes Crash". Think it was season 2.

I'm 48. I remember when it happened.
Much respect to your mom. The flight attendants brought their A game that day...
Here's the Air Crash Investigations TV episode about the crash.

I've read about that crash before, it was also featured in the weather channels "why planes crash" series. Truly remarkable that anyone survived it, I can't imagine what your mom and all of the ppl on board experienced that day and the actions of many were nothing short of heroic
