I still think it's shitty to take the money in that case. I don't blame the charity for trying to up their donations.

It's pretty asinine to believe this is something only Bush does though. Between that and books, a lot of former politicians clean up. And some do so at charity events.

Charitable Organization Person: Hey, I bet we could make a shite ton on our event this year if Bush showed up. Yanno, we checked and we can get him for $120k and if we get him, I'll bet we more than double our usual haul. Who's away?

Donor: Well, shite. I'll write the check for him to show up. Who do I make it out to? Are you going to putt first or me?

Again, if there was anything to him he wouldn't charge anyone a dime.

A charity? Sure. Other events like college forums, company conferences, etc? I don't see any reason he (or anyone else) shouldn't charge a speaking fee. And that includes Trump's $1.5 million or Clinton's $200k.

The vet organization must have thought he was worth the investment. Never forget there are many paid employees at so-called non-profits. Its all about money and hopefully some goes to help the vets, but it is all about money.

And we don't know what he did with that money. He might have donated it right back. This is a tempest in a teapot from a leftist on the forum who is pissed when he sees a Busch beer.

He's made his own fair share. And he was obviously inculcated with a sense of the importance of charity by his father. Which is another area wherein I'm guessing you're deficient.

This kind of seems like a non-story, though Bush waiving the fee would have been the right thing to do. At any rate, the fee didn't come out of the charity's funds, so who really cares.

It would be a non-story if he had not sent our troops into a war for nothing and getting 6 figures to raise money for them.
