Nashville and Tennessee in general continue to get better and better every passing year.

There is no question in my mind that Nashville has replaced Memphis as the premier city in TN. One of the best places to live in the South imo.

That's not saying much.

Yes, I'd say that Nashville has moved far ahead of Memphis as Tennessee's premier city. It's fast becoming one of the Old South's destination cities which include Atlanta and Charlotte. I'd rank its New South cultural importance second only to Atlanta at this point, just ahead of New Orleans.

It has been a couple of years since I was in Nashville, but when we were there March of 2015 there was construction going on everywhere. They were just starting to build the Bridgestone building between the Hampton Inn and the Schermerhorn. The Music City Walk of Fame park was undergoing a complete renovation. I want to say that there was something else just getting started on 3rd Street across from Bakersfield. It was amazing.

If you think that is impressive, then you should look up the time lapse of Austin.

4 times what is going on in Nashville.

Houston and Dallas has also gone through a building boom.

Nashville may becoming a bigger city,
But the entire state of Texas in going through the same boom that California saw years ago.

I would agree with that completely.

To be mentioned in the same breath as Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Charolette, Miami etc. as one of the best major cities in the South is a huge accomplishment considering where Nashville was just 40-50 years ago.

To the poster talking about Austin and Texas in general --
That's great and there's no question that Texas is booming. I hope that Tennessee never turns into that though. I'm from Southern California (Los Angeles metro) and specifically moved away for that reason. Texas & Colorado can continue to get the huge wave of California transplants. I honestly hope that they don't ever invade TN the way that they have Texas.

Texas will at least practice conservative politics and attempt to maintain a balanced budget, unlike California.

California also gets a lot of dreamers thatdo t offer much to the economy. Texas celebrates independence and everyone has a place. But People move to Texas largely to work, and to have a decent way of life. Not too different from you moving to Tennessee.

I agree that some Californians have made an impact. But I believe it has been mostly positive.

I'm well aware of Austin's growth. I am also well aware of DFW's growth.

I was not as aware of Nashville's growth, in particular, their downtown.

I wondered myself why Austin was brought up in a conversation about Nashville and Nashville's downtown/growth.

Anyways, it's great to see. The future is extremely bright.

I went to Nashville for a bachelor party about a month ago. Very impressed with what Nashville has become. If life took me there I wouldn't be very mad about it.

Charlotte isn't all that, just good PR campaign by the city.

Lots of murder in Charlotte, and anything right outside of the one little fancy district downtown is just strip malls and murderers.

You don't even have to go that far back. Downtown Nashville was in bad shape 25 years ago or so. I remember my first time in Nashville was in 1993. The Ryman was pretty well falling apart, and most of the establishments down in that area weren't family friendly at all. There was a county song out around that time that included the line "Now Broadway's like a sewer/bums and hookers everywhere/Wino passed out on the sidewalk/doesn't anybody care?"

The renovation of the Ryman to a usable music venue, and the relocation of the Country Music Hall of Fame and artist museums from Music Square to the downtown area, along with the building of Bridgestone Arena, were huge in revitalizing the lower Broadway area.

On top of that you then add the Titans stadium just across the river. That opens the door for better hotels, more family friendly eating places and a revitalized nightlife.
