Without getting into details, I work in govt. and have had the "pleasure" of going up against idiot self-proclaimed Sovereign Citizen judges and magistrates that just know if they push the right buttons and pull the right strings, the curtain will drop and we will have to do their bidding as rightful air breathing living humans instead of employees of United States, Inc. Oh, and their birth certificates are being used as mutual funds and collateral to fund the debts of United States, Inc., and they want their money back, now. In gold from the fund in Fort Knox (or the JOHN ADAMS TRUST in Puerto Rico ).

Going up against them in court is the legal equivalent of clubbing baby seals. If the baby seals were tax evading low lifes who refuse to pay their mortgage and insist on wasting your time with frivolous bullshiite.

I think the sovereign citizenry are outside the conservative/liberal dichotomy.

It's a form of extreme libertarianism.

Libertarianism is based on the Constitution. Sovereign citizenry is based on the defunct Articles of Confederation. Big difference.

Not with 21st-century right, maybe, but with the right of the 20th century that promoted individualism.

Not necessarily. At its simplest, libertarianism is really just the opposite of authoritarianism.

Every part of the continuum has extremes. Libertarianism is no different. I'm the arch liberal (by American standards, anyway), but go too far to the left and you end up at Stalin.

I'm a Libertarian. We favor the least amount of government necessary for a society to function in a civil manner.

Government should perform only those functions that the private sector cannot or will not take on and that are vital to the community and nation. Anarchy is not part of Libertarianism.

Like most extremists, Sovereign Citizens are taking a decent idea/worldview and going apeshit with it.

And also like most extremists, they're selective in their ideology. If it's good for them then it's a right. If it isn't good for them then it's illegal.

In other words, they had shitty parents who didn't bother telling them they're not the centers of the Universe and they'll have to deal with authority. They have child-like brains in adult bodies.

As a committed civil libertarian, the Bundy people enrage me. They were aware that the Federal Government imposed grazing fees on land owned by the government when the dispute began in 1993. They were aware that no adverse possession claim could be made against the BLM. Many people who support the Bundy folks are the same people who are knee jerk supporters of police in interactions with minorities, as well as those who oppose any form of immigration. To be a libertarian, one must eschew the use of force, violence or state coercion in order to achieve an end or objective. The Bundy's made clear this was not possible, despite the existence of judicial and statutory precedent in favor of the BLM's arguments.
