Who needs an app to tell them they are in a shitty part of town?

Look for this...

and this...

and this...

When you see two out of three of these, in any combination, do not pull your phone out to see if you are in a "sketch" neighborhood.

Its too late.

I have always thought it was funny how hipsters who refuse to think of themselves as racist or judgmental use "sketchy" as a code word.

I've gone rounds trying to get cousins and siblings to explain to me what they mean by "sketchy" and never gotten a definition. "It's just, you know....kinda sketch."

No, I don't know. Are you talking about people who ANNOY you????

Hipster lingo.

Sketch = old neighborhood in a city where blacks/mexicans/poors live.

Hipster hang out = old neighborhood in same city, with same shitty buildings, but white middle class residents. Which makes it vibrant and eclectic, or whatever the frick words they use to describe places.

So their suggestion is to stay out of Mississippi completely? If so, good.

When I think sketchy I think of a neighborhood/area where I don't want to stop unless I have to and if I do I make damn sure my windows are rolled up and my doors are locked.

And in Louisville, Portland (which is a predominantly white high poverty neighborhood) is just as sketchy as the West End (predominantly black high poverty neighborhood). Same with off Taylor Blvd down by UofL and Churchill Downs which is a pretty diverse neighborhood, but also another high poverty area.

Maybe hipsters don't know that one of sketchys definitions is disreputable.

I avoid the hood here. It's pretty easy tho....avoid any street that has S.W. or W. after it. And don't got farther north than the tall buildings.

Racist. The author of the article just assumes sketchy = poor black neighborhood. Calls the designers "grinning caucasian co-founders" like it's a crime to be white, then assumes all bad neighborhoods are chock full of African Americans.

So I guess all 'crime watch' groups are racist now. All neighborhood watches = racist. Locks on doors are racist 'cause it assumes someone wants unauthorized access to your house and, if you believe that, you must believe that the potential criminal is African American thus you are racist for locking your house.

Walls are racist. Ownership of any kind is racist. Being born white (or Asian) is racist.

The racist author of that article should sit in a corner and think about what he (or she, or it) has done.

Hell, I lived in Ensley from a newborn till the age of 2. Our neighbor got shot in a crack deal gone bad. So my mom moved us in with her parents in Mountain Brook.
