Not really.

The distortion of the term socialism and it's real meaning is discussed in this brief video.

I dont know what bugs me more, the redefining of socialism in this country or the fact that 95% of the populace doesnt know the difference between socialist and fascist and think they are interchangeable.

It's probably the latter, given that the two terms are as different as monarchy and democracy.

I think what Duke is referring to is how people who don't really know what they are talking about generally lable every liberal a socialist without really knowing it's meaning.

Kinda sorta how libertarian has become the new term for fiscally conservative socially liberal people.

what if you are socially liberal on certain social issues whilst maintaining a strong Christian backbone on others but being a staunch conservative fiscally who also wants the gov. to cut back on Military spending and expanding investment the space/exploration/research/fringe science areas?

Yeah I really thought that was clear. It certainly was after I clarified the initial confusion earlier in the thread.

Bill Maher advocates socialist ideals both through his shows and with his political contributions. I don't even have to prove this... Just friggin google "Bill Maher socialism" and he'll prove it for me.

Lots of people who think no one else knows what socialism means don't know what it means either.

Given all of the condescending attitudes in this thread, the lack of a definition for socialism is troubling to me...

I would like to think that everyone on here promoting socialism has read The Communist Manifesto where the idea of what socialism is and how democracy can be used to initiate the building blocks for a communist state are clearly laid out.

If you think socialism is great, then good for you. You should at least understand what the point of the entire ideology is though.

There is a problem with the math. Simply put, you end up with more people taking out of the system and depending on the government administered equality. Everyone ends up with the same but in the real world that same has always been regression to the mean.
