We’re all prejudiced, because we grow up in a racist culture and we inherit those prejudices. But racism is a system of institutional, systemic oppression, and in order to be racist, you need both the prejudice + the power to affect people. By that definition, which a lot of progressives share, PoC (people of color) can’t be racist, because they don’t have any reinforcement from that institutionalized power. We may hold individual racist ideas and thoughts, but we only have the power to do damage with our actions in the rare, brief contexts where our other privileges temporarily override color privilege. A relative of mine may say racist things about black or white people in her own home, but when she engages with the wider world, as she must do daily, she’s just another brown girl, and is therefore at risk.

So while a black person may be prejudiced against whites even to the point of hurting and killing them, he is not racist: he lacks the power of the courts, the police, the banks, the newspapers and so on to affect society as a whole. Going by this meaning of the word the only racist people in America are white.

racism = prejudice + power
Thats too deep for most people on the rant to understand Huey...

They'll just end up destroying their own neighborhoods like they did with King. Let 'em do it for all I care. I just want to see the American justice system to perform the way it's intended to- and that's to acquit Zimmerman based on the trial alone

I can't imagine riots actually happening. They're being mouthy and talking big, but when it comes down to it, most of them will do exactly what they're doing now - hide behind the anonymity of their computer or cell phone and talk hateful.

And the prosecution should be embarrassed.

racism = prejudice + power
That's not what my dictionary says.

The only part he's wrong about is that he mistakes racism for segregation. SEGREGATION = prejudice + power. Prejudice is a phenomenon of which racism is a particular type. I know the old saying is racism =, but I'm arguing that's wrong.

Except for the fact that Zimmerman is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, and the state hasn't done diddly-shite to prove him guilty. If they had, I'd be seeing this a much different way. I can't speak for my counterparts, but that's why I support Zimmerman at this point

You are just as stupid and ignorant as 3xlsugrad. We weren't arguing about whether Zimmerman is guilty or not. We were discussing whether those tweets were racist or not. They clearly were.

Racism is a tool created by the ruling class to keep the masses in check. Don't just know what it means(you) but know who and what situation caused racism to flourish

Exactly. And Zimmerman has shown himself to be a liar with the lies about his finances. That, coupled with his record for violence, doesn't make me trust him.
