Great, GREAT documentary. Anything he does is on fire. Just rewatched it on Netflix and man o man, was it informative.

Was younger when it first came out on PBS, but now watching it at my age (30), I can see similarities between then and now.

The pictures are awesome. The narration is awesome. The facts are a glaring reminder of how we need to get along with each other or it's going to happen again.

Who else is a Ken Burns fan? Baseball is great too. I need to watch Vietnam.

Honorable mention: National Parks.

i have watched this probably 10 times. i love it.

i've always been a fan of the song john browns body as it's a jazz tune as well but this documentary made me hate Dixie / Bonnie Blue Flag with a passion. that is the worst most annoying song i've ever heard in my life and they play it like 20 times an episode whenever the confederates do something good

Complete agreement here. And how about Shelby Foote's contribution? I was mesmerized by him.

If you are readers check out Sam Hildebrand's autobiography.
It is a great read.

The fact he raided near my hometown and robbed my great Uncle didn't hurt. At least he didn't hang him.

I'm hoping “The Vietnam War” will become another classic like the Civil War. It comes out next month.

Civil War history has always bored me. But I watched this doc last summer and loved it.

BB docu is outstanding. The footage on the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn is really something. It's like the world came to an end for those people.

Yes he did. I love his story of Forrest at Fallen Timbers, as the cavalry covers the retreat of the Confederates toward Corinth. The way he tells the story of him slashing with his saber and pulling the Yank up on the saddle behind him as a shield is just masterful. That and his story about telling Forrest's great granddaughter that he thinks of Forrest and Lincoln as the two greatest minds of the war, and she telling him in no uncertain terms that they don't think much of Lincoln.

The soundtrack is good, but not great. I love Ashkoshan Farewell, but it is not a period piece. If you really want to listen to music from that era, check out the 2nd South Carolina String Band (reenactors who play on period instruments) or the album United and Divided - it is all period music done by current country/folk/bluegrass artists

Can't wait for the Vietnam doc. The War was pretty good as well. His civil war doc was the best so far.

If you've never read Shelby Foote's civil war series I highly recommend it. Excellent read.

My girlfriend is Vietnamese (no pics) and she will absolutely not watch anything concerning this war. She was just a child during the war but a lot of shite has burned into her memories about this conflict. I really don't blame her-I'll just wait till the DVD comes out and watch it alone. It's going to be a great series if Burns has anything to do with it.

americans are extremely shattered.

years ago, probably 6-7 years ago i was working with an indian programmer on a project and we were talking and he had to go. i asked him where he went he was like oh no big deal there was an elephant outside. a f'n elephant. and you imagine being at home and an elephant just walking down the street. dude wasn't even phased.
