The "April Tornadoes" came through Alabama four yrs ago today

Unbelievable destruction. The Mrs and I took some supplies up to Phil Campbell that weekend. It looked like someone had drop a few bombs on that town.

Only time I have lost power in Huntsville. Brown's Ferry nuclear plant lost almost all its power line connections.

I was in Hoover at the time, just moved to Alabama 3 months prior. We got some nasty weather and some shingles from our apartment complex blowing around, to go along with a loss of power for a day or two, but nothing REAL bad. We got lucky.

Baton Rouge had a tornado blow through this morning. Incredible thunderstorm.

The devastation that Tuscaloosa encountered was breath taking. It definitely opened up my eyes, and many others, and made us count our blessings.

It was chilling to actually see in person the destruction. I worked not too far from Concord, about 25 mi due west of Birmingham that was in the path of the Tuscaloosa tornado. Stunning what happened over there. And the seeing the twisted street light poles in Pratt City was incredible.

If there's one type of weather I fear it's tornadoes
Just the absolute destruction they can cause is mind bogging and all you can do is hide in your bathroom and pray that it doesn't come down on you.

I live in Lawrence County (North AL), and I know some tornadoes passed by about a mile from our home. We were blessed to not receive any damage, although we lost power for several days.
Some folks were not as fortunate sadly... Some friends of mine lost homes or property in general. We were fortunate that there weren't as many casualties compared to other locations, although the damage was still mind boggling.

They also came through Mississippi. But I'm sure we all know that.

One of our employees lives in Concord and I couldn't get in touch with him for almost 2 days after that tornado came through. I really thought him and his family had gotten killed. He finally called me and told me that his house was one of the only ones that didn't get destroyed. I will always hate that day. It truly changed my perspective on weather.

Certainly is interesting you all remember certain days for tornadoes...just another spring up here.

I was in Tuscaloosa the day after the storm. It was if a bomb went off. There were parts of Birmingham where you could stand in the path and see miles in both directions like a bunch of bulldozers lined up and just started plowing forward. We had debris in our yard in Homewood...which was miles from any kind of devastation. So surreal.
One thing I remember about that day is just how bright the sun seemed that afternoon before the storm. Just unusually bright as compared to a normal sunny afternoon.

There was more than one, but they were tiny.
Highest wind gust I've heard was 68 mph at Drusilla and Jefferson.

I wasn't trying to be facetious or anything. Just thought it was odd. Probably the same way I would react if a hurricane hit Missouri. Just interesting that our country is so vast and different.

People often forget this.
The Philadelphia, MS and Smithville, MS tornadoes were both EF-5s. Many believe the Smithville, MS tornado to be among the Top 5 most intense tornadoes ever recorded. It was definitely the most intense tornado of the whole outbreak. That is for sure.
As for the Tuscaloosa tornado, I was in downtown when the tornado struck the southern half of the city. I believe I took a pretty good picture on my out-of-date iPhone:

Has Missouri ever had 62 tornadoes blow through and kill over 260 people in a single day? Oh, by the way, I'm pretty sure most people in Missouri remember the day the Joplin tornado blew through.
