Any favorites? Coe, Kris, Keen, etc.?

Personally, I like Keen the best. Texas country tends to be better than Nashville IMO.

As much as it pains me to say it, some of the best acts come from Oklahoma. Jason Boland and the Stragglers, No Justice, Stoney LaRue, etc. As far as the Texas guys go, Robert Earl is the quasi-Godfather. Check out Casey Donahew Band, William Clark Green, Sean McConnell, and an all-time great Ag, Roger Creager.

You're absolutely correct about Texas country being better than Nashville country.

I know which just seems crazy to me. Django's a pure Texan though and I would definitely say Jerry Jeff has proven himself to be a great Texan.

Jason Boland's live album recorded at Billy Bob's is fantastic.

My friend runs the radio station in Ft. Worth that is dedicated to Texas (Red Dirt) country music. He has a great syndicated show on Sundays. If you love this music, then you should check out his show.
