Because Cody is actually the victim here.

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with that fat mother fricker. Somebody would have to tie his arse up first since he could bench press my single wide.

Yeah but he cant run at 985 FPS.

I hope he gets arse raped in prison 3 times a day. Everyday. And gets shanked on his last day.

Alright. I understand the sentiment, but for me it comes down to his state of mind. Getting back to the question of why he took the dog to the vet. If his intent was evil, why not just leave him in the cage until he’s dead and dispose of the body, or shoot the dog, etc.?

I think there’s a chance he’s mentally ill. Maybe from birth, maybe from hits to the head in football? If so, I’m glad he’s serving time but I can’t bring myself to wish a painful death on the guy. But again, it’s not hard for me to understand why someone else would.

At trial, Cody testified that he was feeding Taz two or three pounds of food a day, but that Taz couldn’t keep food down and kept vomiting. The prosecution disputed this claim, saying autopsy reports showed Taz wasn’t rejecting food. “He clearly misidentified what was wrong with the dog and let the lack of treatment go beyond what it should have,” Murtha says, adding that Cody had “somewhat limited knowledge of how to care for the dog, and he reached a conclusion.”

You never know what could have been happening in Cody's life. I'm not trying to take up for the guy, because I don't know him but he may have been high on dope or prescription drugs for several months and didn't give a damn. He seemed to have thought that the dog was eating, seems like his girlfriend did too. They might have left the dog to take a vacation (which is a terrible thing to do btw) and come back to find him emaciated. Taking the dog to the vet shows some sort of contrition, so I have to give him at least that. In hindsight, he would have been better to just put the dog down.

I hate the thought of someone abusing an animal. It is sickening on so many levels. But something here isn't adding up, so I'll reserve judgment.

Animal cruelty, arson, and bed wetting are three of the most looked at traits of a sociopath.

Yes and no. Any of those by itself is not indicative. It’s the combination of all three (called the “Macdonald Triad” or “Homicidal Triad”) that presents concern. There’s also the Confusion of the Inverse which should be avoided, specifically that the Homicidal Triad is present in all (or almost all) serial killers, but everyone who demonstrates the Homicidal Triad is not a serial killer. These would also be observed beginning in childhood and persist into adulthood. (Also, there are plenty of criminal psychologists who think the Macdonald Triad is junk.)
