Something strange happened to me today. I saw someone mention the Mandela Effect on the internet so I decided to look it up. Here is the web definition:
"The Mandela Effect is a colloquial name for an instance wherein a group of individuals all mis-remember the same detail or event. The effect derives its name from the fact that many people seem to have a memory of Nelson Mandela dying prior to his actual 2013 demise."
The second most talked about example of this effect(and the one the freaked me out) is how many people have the memory of the "Berenstain" Bears actually being called the "Berenstein" Bears. I am one of those people that distinctly remember them as the Berenstein Bears. I have a vivid memory of going to my neighbors house as a child who was an avid reader and discussing the correct way to pronunciate Berenstein as either Beren"stine" or Baren"steen". I also asked my wife what she remembers and she was the same as me. We than go pull out our kids book and sure enough we were both wrong, it was Berenstain on the book. Does this happen for anyone else?

Berenstain Books
I always pronounced it Bern Steen, but I suck at reading so...
On a similar random note, the movie Behind Enemy Lines. I distinctly remember Owen Wilson singing "Black Water", by the Doobie Brothers as he was walking thru a field. However, after re-watching the movie, both DVD and TV, it's not on there.

Such a refreshing topic.

This thing about the Bears must be going around Facebook lately. A friend brought this up, and everyone tasty anyone's asked, remembers it as Bearenstein. I thought he was lying, until Googled the books.
We coughed it up as an example of the Butterfly Effect.

I asked both my parents how it was spelled, they both said "-stein". I always pronounced it as such. All the books are tucked away in storage somewhere. That is the internet's only hope if I can find the dozens of BB books

Glitch in the matrix. Neo will come and prove to us that it was indeed Stein.

Vice and The Onion A.V. Club have posts about the Bernstein Bears, probably why this has popped up again.
I definitely thought it was Bernstein growing up, but I imagine that's simply because "stein" is more common and we subconsciously autocorrect in favor of more familiar spellings.
