The guy with the gay lisp. I can't remember his name. Didn't go to Breakaway very often.

How could one be so stupid as to think he wouldn't get caught.

Yeah, Greg Matte definitely gives off a strong gay vibe. Not just his voice but his mannerisms as well.

He set the standard. In fact, the eponymous law bears his name.

Wednesday Update

Dear Members of St. John’s,

God is good today. Yesterday was hard, of course. The nature of Matt’s sin broke on the news and is now out there for everyone to see. I’m sure it was a shock to hear his name on the news or to be confronted with posts and links that break the confidentiality of this matter wide open. Most difficult is to see the way he has been savaged in all of this.

We have been receiving communication too, of course. There have been many gestures of support from the community and promises to pray. I appreciate and respect those taking the time to understand what we are going through. There have also been communications that are just mean and for no other purpose than to hurt. Apparently this has touched a larger and deeper issue for some, and I pray that they will find peace.

To keep our perspective, though, in the midst of this sudden storm, we must remember that this was never about the details of sin. Not for us. Those details have been revealed now, but they don’t really matter. Everyone faces different temptation, but we all face temptation. And we know what to do with sin. We take it to the Lord Jesus, who has covered our shame with His precious blood.

We have been wounded by the public scrutiny that this has drawn, but in the end it reminds me of what we well and truly are: We are a church for sinners.

There may be some who think they have no faults. There may be those who say there is no such thing as sin. As for St. John’s, we are a place for those who know their sin to come and receive forgiveness from God and understanding from their brothers and sisters.

It is easy to think that Jesus came to save polite sins and to forgive easy faults. But He came to save real sinners, and as such we rejoice to know that our sins, too, are covered. Washed away. Removed as far as the east is from the west. And these tears too will be wiped from our eyes in His time.

In the meantime, please look to one another. We are hurting, but the God who is faithful will not forsake us.

See you in church,
-Pastor Kempin

I know some people get upset with closeted preachers, but I think their self loathing and guilt draws them to being preachers because they want to give it their all for God to "fix" them. I just wish someone else remembers this anti-gay speech. He was telling all these really personal stories of gay men in his life, and then all these weird statistics about how gay relationships were doomed for failure(I guess to add some rationality behind the hate) and it was just... very surreal.

So for someone like you that thinks Jesus condemns homosexuality, is this the stance you take? That gays are just sinners like liars or thieves, and the temptation to break in to someone's house and steal their jewelry is the same as the temptation to ram some dude up the butt? When he talks about "real sin" do y'all look at it like something that can be cured if you love Jesus enough?

Haggard's Law is an Internet adage or epigram named after Pastor Ted Haggard that is typically stated as:
“”The louder and more frequent one's objections to homosexuality are, the more likely one is to be a homosexual.
It is used as either a purely sarcastic musing that people who strongly object to homosexuality have been scientifically demonstrated to be more likely to engage in homosexual activities,[1] or in a reflection of the probability based on the numerous public scandals[2][3][4][5] of famous figures in the opposition of homosexuality and homosexual behavior.

So true.

Behind every holy roller politician is a party with hookers and blow.

Behind every anti-gay preacher is...well you know...

Not exactly.

A more accurate description is that God doesn't rate sin. It is a yes/no proposition - you're either a sinner or you're not and since we're all fallen creatures, we're all sinners and no one man's sin is worse or less forgivable than another.

We people have a real problem grasping/accepting that concept because our entire justice and morality system is pretty much based on rating one's sins. A mass murderer is worse than a thief, a thief is worse than a cokehead, etc but God simply doesn't work that way.

So is a person engaging in a homosexual lifestyle a sinner like a liar or thief? Yes. They're also a sinner just like me, who used several of George Carlin's 7 words when the guy sat at the green arrow and caused me to miss a light on the way to work this morning. We're all in the same boat.

quote:

When he talks about "real sin" do y'all look at it like something that can be cured if you love Jesus enough?

That's not what he's saying at all. He's talking about forgiveness. That's the washing away. A clean slate, total absolution no matter the sin because again (as the author of that letter points out) sin is all the same to God.

To use medical terms, in no way does Christ provide a 'Vaccine' against sin. That disease is chronic and we all have it but the 'symptoms' are different in every individual. He does, however, provide a 'cure' in that his forgiveness completely alleviates the disease of sin's otherwise terminal effects.

So yes, Christ indeed cures sin - just not in the way you portrayed it.

On a only very slightly related note, until this story I'd never heard of Grindr.....

He's absolutely creepy, but he's a prosperity preacher. A 'name it and claim it' guy.

Far more likely a Jim Bakker instead of Ted Haggard.....
