Well lets see just a few years ago charleston was ahead of savannah in container business by a long shot. Now y'all dropped to 10 and we jumped to 4. If that's not "losing business" I don't know what is. And btw considering your city to be #1 in the entire world is the snobbish arrogance that we're trying to point out to you.

You don't even have to take it from me, go read any trip advisor or travel board and see what they say. Savannah is more accepting and friendly. Charleston has better history, although Sherman seemed to really like us the best.

I'm sorry but #1 City in the World still makes me . "Premier magazine" or not.

If I asked 100 random people if they could go anywhere in the entire world where would it be? Maybe 5 would pick Charleston.

I guess it's all relative, both are gorgeous. College of charleston has hotter girls. We have the sexy artsy girls though. If I had to live anywhere other than savannah it'd be Charleston.

It's not losing business, dummy, Charleston's TEU's have continued to climb and will be higher this year than last. It's simply a smaller port. Even so how is this related to a discussion of Charleston v Savannah in terms of livability, tourism desire, etc? Norfolk, Tacoma and Oakland have bigger ports than Charleston, too, doesn't mean people think they're the best cities in the country.

I don't consider Charleston #1 in the world, jesus, pay attention. I linked several magazines that bestowed that title on our city. They think that (and most are readers' polls, fyi).

This is roughly equivalent of saying don't take the Academy Award's word for it, just go read the imdb msg boards. Whether you agree or not, though, the big names shape perception.

Five is a pretty good number. Given the scope of the question I doubt you'd have more than 10 people say any one place.

The point is whether you like those places or not, they are regarded as premier travel destinations. As is Charleston. Savannah is a tier below.

Travel + Leisure lists Savannah at number 7 for top ten places to travel in the US and Canada.

Time to reshape your perception.

Who doesn't? That's exactly why I'm going to Sante Fe on my next vacation. It's #5 on the list, afterall.

Looking for consistency across multiple platforms here. I can find you a top 25 poll w/ Texas at #1, too.

I was being sarcastic. $ dominates all. Resorts, hotels, etc. pay to be featured in these magazines. Some in the form of we will sign a contract to advertise for a year or two as long as there is a featured article on their destination. Others in the form of we will give you x dollars if you write an article about us. I wouldn't be surprised if Tourism Bureaus paid off magazines to be featured in a list.

Worked for a failing Travel magazine for a couple years and saw it in action. This magazine didn't agree to write articles because someone advertised. Might have been a factor into why they failed.

Hmm so let's see that's 13 cities. Top two go to BCSNCG (CHS v SF). Auto Sugar bid to second best in SEC region (NOLA). So at best Savannah is playing in a non-BCS game. Let's see... I guess that makes y'all the Capital One Bowl of US cities (very fitting for a city full of UGA grads)! Nothing to sneeze at.

Hey now, don't get your seersuckers in a wad. I don't have ties to either place; I like them both. Honestly, I tend to think of Charleston and Savannah as close cousins. A lot of other people do too. I guess that offends you for some reason, but it's not an uncommon perception.

Because its unbelievable that anything could ever come close to Charleston. It's the soup they swim in. There's no denying how snooty they are. Your turn cock boy.

It was a joke.

Historically, this is correct. Even as recently as when I was in college, it was pretty appropriate. Lately, though, a lot has changed in CHS. I think many people who haven't visited in 3-5 yrs would be very surprised at what has gone on in their absence.
