That's the worst idea I've ever heard in my life, Tom.

Yes, this is horrible, this idea.

If I were black and living in MS, I'd sure as hell try to stay in white areas only. US folk from around here see the 6 or 10pm report about every day. We know what goes on and we also know what the outside media is all about. Black people kill black people in MS.

Same shite happens in Bham, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge...race on race crime is far greater than white/black or black/white crime.

No shite, but the media continues to portray Mississippi,(and only Mississippi) as a white on black killing field, which is an outright lie. Like I stated before, I'd like someone to point out MORE THAN ONE instance of racially motivated murder of a black person by a white perpetrator that happened in this state over the last 10 years.

Well just because a white man kills a black man, or a black man kills a white man doesn't mean that it's racially motivated either.

People kill people for all sorts of reasons. Doesn't mean it has anything to do with race.

With all that said, I'm sure there is still some of it that goes on, but not nearly as much as some would have you believe.

A lot of times what happens is the conflict had to do with something else, and the racial different acted as a catalyst for excessive violence.

Not saying that's what happened here (I don't know enough about this case to pass judgment), just thinking out loud.

What's the latest on this story? Was he bound or not? I heard he murdered a white woman a few years back. It's just terrible when bad things happen to bad people...

He murdered white woman 35 years ago, paroled out in 2006. Why? I have no clue. I doubt this is a retaliatory killing, since he's been out for over 8 years, and the crime being so long ago. I bet it's either suicide or he was murdered by fellow cronies made to look like suicide. Either way, it won't be a hate crime. He wasn't even reported missing for like a week.

Given the location, it's easy to assume it was a lynching. It could have just as well been as suicide though

But you know that news outlets ran like the dickens with this one

No hands tied.
Used his own bed sheets.
Climbed the tree and hung himself.

If anyone wants to explain the physics of how someone hangs another person with bed sheets, I'll wait for your answer (without a tractor or other such mechanical lift assistance).

And I am from the area where this happened. I was young when this man murdered Ms Trimm, but I remember her. He shot her 5 times with a .22 and let her bleed to death while he took $100 from the cash register of the little store she owned.

Maybe the enormity of his horrible crime finally became too much?

So when exactly was the last lynching in Mississippi? I guess from your comment that they happen fairly often?

If it were 1960 maybe. Claiborne county is like 85 percent black. The sheriff is black.

There have been lynchings in other states since the last one in Mississippi. People are so fricking ignorant about MS, and it's because of the media and their hidden agenda. It needs to stop and the leaders of this state, both black and white need stand up against it.

An old girlfriend from college called me all stressed out about it. She lives in DC and has lived in NYC, London, etc.

I told her that it has been 50 years since a white man had killed a black man in Claiborne County, MS. Thats of any description: bar fight, domestic dispute, extrajudicial, self defense, love triangle, random, etc.

But in a population of about 8500 people, there are 3-5 black on black murders and 1-2 suicides every year. So for the past 50 years, maybe 250-300 blacks in Claiborne County have been killed by blacks. And none by whites. When you explain that, you get crickets.

Then, you can usually follow that up with this little jewel: From 1866 to 1966, there were about 2500 black men lynched by whites in the US. (And about 1500 whites lynched by whites). That's over 100 years.

Currently, blacks are killing other blacks in this country at a rate of about 10,000 per year.

It sort of takes the air out of the Black Lives Matter rally, doesn't it?

There is a big difference between being killed becuase you did something or you have something versus being killed becuase you ARE something.

All things being equal I'd rather be killed by a random black dude because he likes the rims on my car vesus being singled out because i'm black, tied up and lynched to a Tree

I don't know what is so racist about the internet but it really is. IRL people aren't this racist, at least i don't see it lol. I deal with white people everyday. I have white people that work for me, I have white clients, my best friends are all white. We joke and kid and shite but none of this burn in hell all black people kill black people shite I see when I come here or reddit or any news program in general. It's really disheartening

And it's always dudes lol. Women aren't that bad. You dudes need to get laid or some shite

There's nothing racist about what I've stated on this topic. My beef is with the media trying every way they can to deceive everyone else in America about what goes on in MS. Everyone that lives in MS or represents this state should be fed up with the national media outlets, with their race baiting tactics and contempt for the deep south. It's gone on long enough. That's all.

The irony is that I really don't think they have an agenda. The truth is that they're just ignorant.
